    Oil burning

Hey guys got 16,898 on the Charger R/T now, and i've noticed some oil on the ground under the car here and there, but not all the time. For the first time last night I noticed a smell of oil while driving back from Boston Late last night. I checked the fluids and I was almost at the Add line but a tad above it. I'm going to take it to the dealer no doubt, but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

    Hey Blackcharger,
I have an 2005 Magnum SXT with the 3.5 V-6. There is a large plastic splash shield that covers up the oil pan/filter etc. About a month ago I was walking out to my car which was sitting on my driveway which is on a downhill tilt. I noticed a small quarter sized puddle of engine oil on the ground. I kinda freaked out because I have NO oil leaks anywhere under there.
So I put the car up on my ramps and pulled the splash shield down and noticed oil dripping from the oil filter. I figured the filter may have worked loose so I checked and it was tight. Now I'm real friggin curious. After looking more closely at the filter, I noticed a oil drip line coming down from the filter right where the filter canister is pinched gripped to the top of the filter. So I removed the filter..and sure enough..there was a flaw somewhere in the manufacturing process. Installed a new PH-16 Fram and my oil leak problem was solved. I have had issues with Fram filters before, so, today when I changed my oil I used a Mopar MO-090 filter. Most likley this may not be your problem..but it's something to check out. The burning oil smell may be your oil leak issue burning off from your header pipe/pipes.......

    hmmmmmmmm

Ya know I was just thinking about that. I looked at the shrowd today and say some oil tear drops. I'm going to take it to a friend with a lift on Monday. I didn't change the oil he did and that could be it, or it could be loose. But until then who knows what it could be thanx for the tip.

I don't remember where I read it, but Fram filters aren't as good as they used to be. You can't go wrong with Mopar.

When I had my Chevy, 2 days after the oil change there was oil under my car. I checked and the filter was loose! I tightened it up and problem was gone. It makes a mess thou. Best to get under there and check it out. Might be something simple. They didn't spill oil on the motor when filling it did they?

The wife's car was dripping oil last year, the drain plug was only finger tight! No, I didn't change the oil, had it done at a local garage.

My son does my oil changes now.

yea who knows. I drove the car 30 miles on the highway last night twice and didn't get the smell. It was 2am so I didn't get under the car and take a look but like i said tomorrow i'll see wtzup. I just don't want to have to go to the stealer if I don't have to. Could be the drain plug 2, I didn't even think of that.

Might very well be the drain plug, the gasket is built into the plug. They say you are supposed to replace the drain plug about once a year, so you have a good gasket seal.

If it is the plug, switch over to a Fumoto valve.
