Not the original owner and want a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty? =)

Just like the title says. Liftime Powertrain on top of EVERYTHING ELSE that the Max Care warranty covers that is offered by Chrysler.

For quite sometime now I've been putting off getting the extended warranty on my car. I'm getting close to the 3 year mark for it being in service so I started to look around. Keep in mind I bought my car used.

So I do some looking on the internet and see whats out there. From previous advise given here I check out the guys at www.chryslerservicecontracts.com and get a good deal of information from them. If I recall the guys name is Michael. I asked about the 7/100k Maxcare Plan with a $0 deductable. He quotes a price on it for me and it was really good and we get to talking about some other things. I told him I was looking at buying a new Dodge vehicle to take advantage of the lifetime powertrain warranty. He said why, when I can get a lifetime maxcare warranty on my vehicle I have now. I questioned him like he was on drugs. Sure enough as long as it is a 2006 and newer Chrysler vehicle (even if you are NOT the original owner) you can get a lifetime maxcare contract that is offered through Chrysler.

I guess they started offering it due to the amount of people that where upset that they didn't qualify for it. Those that purchased before July 26th, 2007. So this is great news for those that are interested in taking advantage of not ONLY the LIFETIME POWERTRAIN but all of the OTHER itmes the LIFETIME Maxcare offers. Those of you that already have the lifetime powertrain can take advantage of the lifetime maxcare as well to cover the rest of the car. So if you plan on keeping it for a while I'd suggest doing so.

There are however some downfalls. Even if you go buy a new car with the lifetime warranty from the dealer today and are the original owner it's not really a lifetime warranty. If for example 15 years from now your motor blows up and needs replaced and is going to cost 15k and the car is only worth 10k they will basically cut you a check for 10k and cancel your warranty/contract. So in a sense the lifetime powertrain isn't all it's cracked up to be, but is still a good deal in the end.

So any thoughts on this guys/gals? Am I the first to hear of this? What's your take on this?

Note: I did a lot of dialing on the phone today to confirm this and it is indeed legit. I spoke with Chrysler directly and the only things that may exclude you are things such as it being a fleet/commercial vehicle and the standard no SRT's or diesels stuff. If you think like myself and want to hear it from the horses mouth 1-800-992-1997 Customer Assistance or 1-800-521-9922 the # that is on every service contract through Chrysler.

^^A few questions. How much is the 7/100k warranty? I bought my 06 a week ago, so I assume I cannot get the lifetime, correct?

Nope you can get it as long at is 2006 and newer and still has 3/36. So as long as that is the case you can get the lifetime which is great! The 7/100k 0 deduct was $2600 and change. The lifetime $100 deduct was $2600 and change. The lifetime 0 deduct was $3700 and change. I think it's worth it if you are going to keep the car. All depends on individual needs. I am still blown away that you can get the lifetime on used vehicles.

I think you are ok. Call them up and let them know it's at like 33k or something. They wont check it. The only thing that may hurt you is if it has been in for service lately but in your case you should be fine. I'm not even 100% sure if it has to be under the 3/36 I'm wanting to say as long as it's under 4/48 you are good. Look into it if you are considering it sooner than later though.

They are still excluded like the diesels. You do however qualify for some of the other warranties. It'd be AMAZING if they would include SRT's and diesels.

What's amazing is anyone buying one. It is not rocket science, just simple math. They exist because the profit is enormous. And it doesn't matter if you personally know 5 people who went to Las Vegas and won, the other 500 lost.

Well see that's where you are wrong with this. In 15 years when I still have the car or even longer for that matter and it needs an expensive repair. Let's say the motor goes. The car is worth let's say 10k at that point. The repair costs 13k. Chrysler cuts me a check for 10k cancels my warranty and sends me on my way. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Most of the good warranties out there that are offered including the Chrysler ones are refundable if they aren't used. So if I have you have no trouble with the car and get rid of it you get the cash back minus an administrative fee usually 25-50 bucks. I'm not sure how you lose on it exactly. Fill me in on what it is I'm missing here.

In 15 years it will be worth $400, and somehow I doubt the "if you don't use it, you get the money back".

Take the 3-4k and buy gold stocks.

you get a pro-rated amount of your payment back minus fees. In most cases you can count on only getting about 25% back but they figure as long as they are giving something back it is good. Buying gold at the current price would probably yield about the same in 3 years

I do however agree that chances are a 15 year old Magnum will only be worth about $500, however a 25 year old, that might be another story.

Well, not exactly. They have a Cancellation Feature they sell for $150. When you add it, you can cancel your warranty at ANY time and get 100% refund, minus the 150 of course, IF you have not used it. So, if you think you will sell your car or not keep it or, you make it to the mileage or time limit and have not used it at all, you get your money back. No proration. Very simple.

I use the HECK out of mine. They give me a rental whenever the car is in for service or warranty work.

Also, bought two contracts from Michael. Uber cool dewd.
