Need to hear from those who drive their Chargers everyday – All Year.

    Greetings,

Someone close to me needs an automobile. They want to buy my truck. I really only use my SUV to drive in the winter so as not to mess up my Charger.

IF the shoe was on the other foot, this person would sell me their truck and just drive their nice car year around, if I needed it.

As a result of that thinking, I am thinking of selling it to them and making my Charger a daily driver, even in the winter.

Problem is, not sure how this car will do in the snow and sleet. For those of you who do know can you shed some light for me.

How do our rear wheel heavily modded V8s due in the snow? Are they hard to handle? Is there a lot of sliding all over the place? For those who are lowered like me, how is the clearance? I do not want snow and ice scrapping the exhaust. I guess I can protect the body with my Zanio.

Not looking forward to scrapping ice and snow off my baby when I come out of work.

BTW, I do have a garage so, she will not be out in the cold over night.

    Thank you!

I used to live in canal winchester, OH. I know how bad the winter can get there. I now live in MD, it is not as bad, but people get really stupid when that snow hits the ground if you know what I mean.

I used my maggie all of last winter and it handled well for the torque that it has. That was with almost bald contis by the way. I only had one problem with traction last winter.

My suggestion is, just be careful. It can be done, I would not really worry about the clearance issue. If the snow or ice on the ground is that high that it scrapes. You should probably not be driving at all.

My charger handled like total crap in the snow. I had no business driving it last year and I wont drive in the snow with it this year.

Living in North Dakota is like living in winter at least 5 months a year. My Charger did just fine.

On one occasion, I had to stop on an incline. Gently stepping on it didn't get me anywhere, but hitting the ESP button and autosticking to second gear to start out allowed me to get going just fine.

I don't know what kind of snowfall amounts you get, but my non-lowered car made it through 4 inch layers just fine.

Like roswald said, just be careful.

Yeah, I remeber when I was a kid, there was never a problem driving rear wheel cars in the snow. Of course I was a lot more lucky then.

The car is really not that lower than a factory RT, about an inch all around. Also, I live close to work and many stores so, I should not see that much driving in the Charger if I give up the truck.

    Thanks!

You say you're modded... assuming you're not much over the power of the 6.1L, I'll give you my .02 from my magnum experience (let's face it, same car). Both the stock RT and the SRT were no sweat to drive in the winter. Turn the traction control immediately off so you don't have to worry about getting stuck (the ESP manages wheelspin and can try to leave you hangin when you stop). Then just exercise some self-control with the throttle and your'e fine. Autostick is your friend too. I drove mine all winter on weekends, lots of highway driving on ice, never a problem. Rust should be your only fear. Mine is still pretty clean underneath after a full Chicago winter. Your exhaust is stainless I assume, so no issues there. Some of the bolts have some light rust spots, but who cares?

I didn't have any problems with my Stroker in the snow.

I had a set of snow tires and was just easy on the throttle... car had no problem driving around.... you just need to be careful on the highway when the road is snowy, as its easy to overpower your traction at 60mph....

It iced here in texas this past winter and they don't exactly take good care of the roads when it gets icy here so I had some fun driving in the ice. I'm no ice racer but the traction control worked well and I had no problems driving even with my little experience with icy roads. I did have a blast in a icy parking lot doing donuts with no wear and tear on the tires.

My car was useless in the snow. We have lots of hills in Western Washington State.

I got Blizzaks, and the car is VERY good in the snow. Quite a confident car now. My car has SRT8 suspension, just for ref.

I guess it depends on your terrain. Is it flat or hilly? I KNOW the people who say they don't need snow tires do NOT have our hills.

the 5.7 handles better in the snow than the 6.1...when i had my 5.7, i had no issues w/ it in the snow and was pleased w/ the way it handled...the 6.1 is another story, it didn't handle that bad, but you need to be very cautious driving in the snow...regardless w/ either car your going to need snow tires and sand bags in the trunk...you should be fine....take care - jimmy

I've driven my Charger since May 05 almost everyday 45KMiles now... It's my only car.
I haven't had much snow in the 2 winters, but heavy rains never seem to be a problem and the little snow I had to deal with on mountain roads wasn't either.
    I've got KDW2s.
