    Nav units and time zones

Just wondering why the nav units don't change the time when you enter different time zones. Think about it- cell phones do it. Our nav units plot our position by longitude and latitude, so it can certainly tell what time zone you are traveling in. But there is no link between that and the clock. I wonder why?

That's a great question. The only thing that comes to mind is cell phones take their times off the closest tower it picks up. If you're right on a time zone "line" then your phone may not pick up the right time until it get's a stronger signal from a tower in the new time zone.

Our NAV units don't sync up to the satelites for time purposes (to my knowledge) only lat/long. If they did sync up to the sat's, then you would have GMT displayed and not have to program your time.

Hope this helps. If I'm off somewhere, someone feel free to correct.
