My SuperChips data from the track

Just joined lxforums, but have been an active member of chargerforums for some time. Here is a post I made over there last week about my experience at the track, and what happened when I took my 91 Oct tune out...

First trip to the track tonite. Greer Dragway, a 1/8 mile IHRA track in Greer SC at about 950' above sea level.

Got there just as the track opened at 6PM. Man it was hot. Car thermometer said 94 when I got there (but it reads high so it was prolly between 88-90). Kept rear tire pressure at 40psi.

Car has JBA Shorties, Magnaflow cat-back, Mopar CAI and I was running the SuperChips 91 Octane tune. 9800 miles on odo. Since it was so hot I wasn't expecting to run as fast as I hoped and I didn't. Made 4 passes between 6:15 and 7:00 with little/no cool down. Car was already heat soaked from the drive up there from work.

    Run 1
    RT - .004 (yeah!!)
    60' - 2.284
    1/8 ET - 9.478
    1/8 MPH - 76.333

    Run 2
    RT - .080
    60' - 2.239
    1/8 ET - 9.442
    1/8 MPH - 77.119

    Run 3
    RT - .207
    60' - 2.273
    1/8 ET - 9.512
    1/8 MPH - 76.771

    Run 4
    RT - .014
    60' - 2.208
    1/8 ET - 9.436
    1/8 MPH - 76.847

At this point I decided to take a break and see if I could cool the engine so I opened the hood and let it sit for 30 minutes and watched from the stands. I was disappointed with my times. With headers I thought I'd be around 9.0-9.1 even with the heat. So when I went back to my car I pulled the 91 Oct tune and LOADED THE STOCK TUNE. Here's what happened.

    Run 5
    RT - .090
    60' - 2.354
    1/8 ET - 9.789
    1/8 MPH - 75.537

Man, that was embarrassing. It felt like a DOG on that run. Bad. So I reloaded the 91 Oct performance tune and went right back into the staging lanes and ran 3 more runs back to back. No cool down except to reload the 91 Oct Perf tune.

    Run 6
    RT - .156
    60' - 2.183
    1/8 ET - 9.377
    1/8 MPH - 76.858

    Run 7
RT - -.001 (redlight by one thousandth!!!)
    60' - 2.179
    1/8 ET - 9.365
    1/8 MPH - 77.078

    Run 8
    RT - .076
    60' - 2.263
    1/8 ET - 9.370
    1/8 MPH - 77.662

So in conclusion, I know I only ran ONE PASS without the SC 91 tune but that was enough. Especially since the car had cooled for 30 minutes prior to that run and was HOT for the other 7. I was sold on SuperChips (even with my problem - I was one of the cars they killed initially) before, and even moreso now.

And even moreso now I want ported/polished heads, a cam and the high-flo cats.
2006 Charger R/T, Brilliant Black, Mopar CAI, SuperChips 91 Octane tune, JBA Shorty Headers, HHP Hi-Flo Cats, Magnaflow exhaust, 180 t-stat, 25-cent fan mod (track only), 8.920 @ 79.383 (69 degrees and 50% humidity)

Welcome, Paul. Some of us are members over at CF also. I saw your post...some pretty good times. How much difference did you notice when you added the JBA's, or did you do all the mods. at the same time? Did you change the tranny and shift point settings? If so, which worked the best, IYO?

Made all my mods pretty much within the same month and didn't go to the track to "baseline" it. Butt dyno said best mods were the headers and SC 91 Tune. Track results seem to back up the SC 91 Tune....

As far as tranny shift point, my first run or two was made with "performance trans" settings, where it shifts at 5500. After 2 or three runs I selected raised shift points because in the 1/8th it kept the car in second gear through the traps instead of shifting about 50-75' short of the lights.

1/8th mile drag racing is like sex. Full of anticipation...most of the fun happens at the start...and it's over too soon.

Did you change the tstat yet and do a fan mod? If you haven't, do it, you will be in the 8s or @ least the VERY LOW 9s.

    Welcome, Paul
I ran a 78 Vette and 86 Grand National at Greer a lot during the early to mid nineties. Maybe before your time. Both ran 8.0 with slicks. Guess I won't take the Mag out there. Your 1/4 mile times appear to be 14.4 by the rule of thumb calculations. I guess that isn't bad for 4200 lbs.
    Again, welcome

Plan on doing the 180 degree t-stat and .25 fan mod this weekend and taking her back next Thurs and see improvement I get.

Yeah, I wish we had a 1/4 mile track close by....Commerce, GA is about an hour or so down the road, but they aren't open to "test and tune" very much.

Come on down this Friday! MikeEast and I will be there with bells on! Even if you don't get your T-stat in by then, I'll see if I can make you a $.25 fan mod. At least you can keep your temps down around 203 instead of 210+
