My State Stinks

Dont get me wrong I really like living in Jersey but when it comes to owning a car it STINKS. First off insurance is ridiculous. We have to have a front plate, and I can't tint my front windows. I had an appointment to get them done first thing in the morning and the guy tells me that its a $54.00 fine if you get pulled over because they are not factory standard.

I can say that I can relate with ya on all your issues, i have had my front windows tinted for two months and not one problem. I have been sitting next to a cop before and not had an issue at all, there tinted at 35%. I just recently removed my front plate and so far so good, cops just look and wave in awww. I can't help it, with the front plate gone and windows tinted it just looks so sweet.

This isn't the first car i have had the front windows tinted on either, no tickets on it either. so take a chance if ya wish, you'll love it in the end.

Ahhh but we don't have to pump our gas and we pay less for gas than PA!

Why is that, exactly? I was in Lincroft this past January and I stopped to fill the rental car back up before heading back to the airport and this employee came out and was trying to take the hose from me and pump the gas. I already had it going pretty much by the time he got over there but he was almost what I'd call aggressive about it. Is it some kind of law that you can't pump your own gas in NJ or something?

I haven't had any problems with tint or plates. Go for it, it's only $54.00!

Yup, not allowed to pump your own gas in Jersey...lived in Flemington for 7 years...went to college, and had to learn to pump gas in PA! hehe

Oregon is that way, too. Not bad, especially in cold, wet, snowy winter.

I say 86 your front plate. I'm in Illinois and we are required to have a front plate as well...I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars since 1994 and It has never been an issue. My friends neighbor is an Illinois State trooper and he told me to take it off because "we don't care". Watch...I'll get a ticket tomorrow for no front plate since I opened my big mouth.

They ticket for sure here in Colorado for no front plate. But I've never heard of anyone getting a Colorado ticket for tinted windows (it's illegal also).

Somebody posted a list of the 50 state tinting standards. I could have sworn NJ allowed tinting the fronts (but not rear or windshield). The max was 35% or the same as the rear windows.

i have an illegal front tint. today a cop on a motorcycle got up next to me and motioned for me to roll down my window...

Nothing darker than factory is allowed here.

My mother move here from Arizona last year and she got pulled over constantly since in Phoenix you either go with the dark tint or your burn.

Hey Boss Man, I live in Illinios also. I came out of a north side restaurant to find two tickets on my Magnum. One for tinted windows and the other for no front plate. Maybe the State Troopers don't care but Chicago Police sure does.

Here in Va only 50% is allowed on fronts...so I did it the other day and I can say it really wasn't worth the $50...it is not dark enough for my taste and still doesn't blend into the other windows...but I'm new here and not sure how strict they are. For a bonus, the guy who did my tint put 4 long scratches with his exacto knife on the glass when trimming the film before applying it! Nice!
