My first mechanical Failure, and boy is it a big one..
UPDATE POST #39
technically it could be called the second, as my rear diff and half shafts were replaced in January do to leaking seals, but that was caught before the rear end actually failed.
Friday when I left work, putting the car into Reverse from Park, I heard an awful grinding sound..
i moved the gear shift from Park to Reverse and Drive several times and the grinding got worse, then the Transmission made a horrific CLUNK..
I turned off the car, waited a minute, started it back up, no grinding..
ok, something is amiss..
I decided that Saturday I would go by the dealer (knowing the service department is open on Saturdays) and have it looked at, I am 437 miles before the end of my 7/85K service contract..
So Saturday Morning I get up, start the car... it dies.
start it again... it dies..
um, not good..
call AAA, get towed to Cerritos Dodge/Jeep (only dealer around me now)..
they start the car after unloading it from the tow truck... took a few tries but it started (not the battery, appears to be the fuel pump)....
Service Advisor revs the engine a bit and you can clearly here a rattle and grinding..
Service advisor puts it in gear and goes for a test drive, about 200 yards from the dealer BOOM...
transmission blows into a zillion pieces all over the road..
Casing has a 12 - 18 inch crack long ways from the bell housing to the rear on the drivers side.. Transmission fluid pan blew completely off, bolt heads are still in the casing.. just no pan on the transmission......
rear u-joint shredded,, motor mount on drivers side is damaged..
My transmission just went BOOM...
437 miles before the end of my 7/85K service contract....
so she sits at the dealer while they access the damage, doesn't appear that anything came thru the floor boards.. but my mopar hi flow cats are tweaked, and the exhaust pipes are dented or damaged....

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. ~Robert McCloskey
