    Mopar locking gas cap?

The other day I got into my Magnum and the low fuel light was on. Thinking that my fuel had been illegally removed, I checked my locking gas cap and there were no signs of foul play. Upon further inspection I pushed in and turned the still locked gas cap and off it came.

Is my Mopar locking gas cap broke or not a locking gas cap at all, but just child proof?

I had one locking gas cap that you had to actually lock. f you didnt turn the key it was like non locking. They called a convience for when you take trips and wont be bothered having to unlock it each time.

Mine is the Factory Mopar cap and if you unlock it and then take the key out it's suppose to be locked when it's put back on. If I just try to take it off when it's locked it just turns and doesn't open, BUT now, if I push in and turn like those child proof medicine bottles it comes right off.

I had the MOPAR locking cap I guess for a year -- it broke recently -- I would expect the thing to last 3 - 5 years -- I'm concluding it's a ($15) piece of junk.

the mopar locking gas cap does not lock automatically. you must lock it either before or after you install it. the key will come out wether locked or unlocked.
Izzy pics money talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"

I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. Thanks.

My MOPAR locking gas cap works great. Had it over a year and a half. I lock the cap before I pull my key out, then tighten it until it clicks a couple of times when replacing. If you try to remove it while locked, it will just spin without coming loose. I hope this made sense.

I just got back from The Mopar Store and AJ checked out my locking gas cap issue. He verified that it comes off if pushed in and turned. A quick call to Chrysler and it was confirmed that they know of the problem and are working on a fix. AJ refunded the purchase price of my locking gas cap.

Must be a recent problem because mine definitely does not spin off when pushed in (tried it today when gassing up).
