Mobil 1 vs Royal Purple What to use?

What oil is better to run? Mobil 1 or Royal Purple? What are the pros and cons of each? Or are they much the same?

I've recently switched to RP 0W40 -- but Mobil1 costs less -- I'm asking the same questions of myself -- is RP worth $3 more a qt than M1? (thats $21 more, just in OIL every oil change)

My gut tells me if you change oil every 6-8K miles, the answer is probably "NO"

I can't justify the price difference for RP, so during the hot months I use Valvoline 5W40 Full Synthetic (which I can get as bulk oil at a Valvoline Quick Lube Shop, I just bring the oil filter) and during the the cold months I use Mobil1 0W40. The Valvoline bulk oil is about $1 cheaper per quarter than Mobil1 case goods and its designed for higher running temperatures.

It's kind of funny, coming from the protouring community to here.Topics such as oil, etc... come up over there often also. However in over 90% of the chats RP is laughed at or scorned. I dunno if its the boutique price tag on an oil that has been beaten in oil comparisions by every other top oil brand. There are a few comparisions floating the net to back any position on a subject, thats for sure.

Check out amsoil, bradpenn oil,joe gibbs oil, etc.... there on the same level of oil, just like mobil 1.

Even dyno oil is good enough, providing you change at 3,500. I change Mobil 1 at 5,000 miles, but I drive very hard and already have a bazillion miles.

I bought oil yesterday at Walmart. I noticed that Mobil 1 has come down from $26/5qtbottle to $22 and the Pennzoil I switched to has come down from $22/5qtbottle to $20. These are supposed to be synthetic but none of them are really so I bought Pennzoil again.

After watching RP stain the inside of the motor I went back to Mobil 1.

Anything which strays from standard automotive practice is mostly marketing bs. Generally somebody says "My Uncle Louie has been using brand XX for 500,000 miles and nuttin' broke. They are too stupid to realize that such statements are not worth the air to say. Somebody has an Uncle Timmy that used WallyWorld .89/qt Dino for 500,000 miles and "nuttin' broke". These people who use this over-hyped boutique oils and then CHANGE it at 3000 miles think they are accomplishing something. Meanwhile, Mini uses syn and recommends oil/filter change every 15K. It's like that with many of the European mfg. In the US, they know the dummies will pay more so they have shorter change intervals on the SAME car.

Todays engine oils are designed for roller cam engines... they have no zddp (unless stated) & old school flat tappet cams need that zddp. My daily drivers get mobil 1 & my hotrods get Bradpenn (used to be called kendall GT) the green stuff.

I know that the next oil that is going into my car(s) is CMW (vendor here)

i think you guys came to your own conclusions on the better type of the two...i personally only like RP in high compression big blocks...500+ cubes or larger...havent seen it do any better than mobil1

stick with mobil1 or try the better oils out there besides RP....overrated....very much so...

Pretty much the same except for price. I think only Amsoil will give benefits of extended changes for the higher price-it can go 15,000+ as long as you use an extended change filter like Wix. So, I would only pay the $8 per quart for that-not RP.

but the thing about using a different oil filter is that its probably as free flowing as the factory filter...beleive it or not...i hate any after market filters...the mopar filter flows way better than any that ive seen or even tried...you can just look at the difference on the sizes of the feeds on the filters...factory ones are usually lager than aftermarket...
