Driving to school today, right in back of me was a Blue 300 Touring driven by a cop.....turning into one of the housing complexes where i live was 2 chargers...a Silver R/T and what looks like a sliver SRT-8, both driven by cops!......well, they'll need the extra power too since our track closed down....all the racers will turn to the streets...we are now the only state in the US without a track.

yepp! we are the only state here without a track! WORD on the streets is they (COPS) are or have put a task force together to stop street racing, undercover cars that you would never guess!!! BE CAREFULL HAWAII SPEED RACERS!

the track got closed down because the lease ran out. The track has been open for 42 years, and now it is being deemed unsafe. The owners of the land, Campbell Estate, will not renew the lease. THe other problems is that the cespool system around the track area had to be converted to sewer, and they gave like 10 years for the leaseee, Mike Oakland, to convert it. BUt with lack of funds, it could not be done. Now in our state house we are fighting for a new world class facility, which will be built on a parcel of land not too far from where the current track is now. HawaiiHemi would you correct me if im wrong? *sigh* now where will we race.

lol....BTW, the one representative in the House, Suzanne Chun-Oakland, wouldnt take sides on that bill because she is related to Mike Oakland, the leasee of the land!

FYI, the tracks on Maui and the Big Island are still open. In fact, alot of the big time racers from Oahu have already shipped their cars here to Maui. I'm sure there will be longer wait times in the staging area from now on. Maui's track is pretty sweet now compared to how it was 30 years ago when I raced a '73 Camaro.
