List of my mods, and a review of each

Saw someone do this on another forum and it was quite informative.

    DUB Cold Air Intake:

Bought from one of our sponsors, PremierTruck at a nice price. Shipping was fast, customer service was excellent.

Install took about 20 minutes, most of that was trying to get the new chromed box seated into the lower airbox. It's a tough one because it doesn't line up right.

On the 6.1 motor you will get some nice gains (2 members have posted before/after dyno sheets showing the CAI good for 22rwhp) and I can certainly feel it in mine. Crisper response, nice throaty sound on acceleration.

Worth the money, and then some.

    Blastin' Bob's Fat Pipes:

Got these directly from Blastin' Bob (blastinbob@aol.com) and although mine were custom made, he gave me a great price.

For those that just want to cut off the restrictive resonators, open up some sound, and save a few bucks, this is the way to go. Bob offers this setup for the SRT as well as 5.7's. NOT offered is Stainless Steel for the SRT (some for the 5.7's though) so I requested a custom set. Bob used JBA pipes at the tips and made the rest of the system in black and it all looks terrific. Install is ubersimple. Cut off old pipes, bolt on new ones. Half hour job.

Performance has certainly increased, especially in the midrange where the SRT really needs it. We have gobs of power at the top of our powerband, but now I have a better range.

The sound is perfect. A nice rumble at startup and idle, and gets nice and deep under normal driving. Under WOT it sounds like an elephant raping a gorilla... it is incredible. There IS drone, but it's not bad. I also like to hear it going down the road, doesn't bother me.

Here are some sound clips taken off my initial set (we ended up redoing them to what I have now, but the sound is the same):

    Stock Idle and rev

Startup, Idle, and rev with Blastin' Bob's pipes installed.

    STOCK WOT run

    WOT run with pipes installed

Cruising and turning with pipes installed

    Quickie fly by

    Nice long fly-by

Worth every penny and then some.

    Tinted Taillights:

Originally made by Jon's Tinted Tails, but purchased from forum member Darthvader when he got his new Avon tails. Darth was excellent throughout the transaction. Plenty of communication, and asked a very fair price.

Install is quick, but can be a b&tch. The tiny little opening you have to work with to access the wingnut is raw metal and can slice you open. You can also easily drop this little plastic wingnut and lose it forever in the body. I did this.

Easily one of the most impacting mods you can do. It changes the entire look of the car, I LOVE it. I was worried after seeing some other's tails. Some are so dark that you cannot see the brakelights in the daylight (this could not only result in police harrassment, but being rear-ended by someone), but these are PERFECT. Just dark enough to look black, just translucent enough to let the lights shine brightly through.

    Worth every penny.

    "Evil Eyelids"

Eyelids are getting more and more popular on LX's, and I wanted to take that and make it more sinister than others i had seen. Once I saw Grinner do his I knew I had to have them.

Custom cut from vinyl, they will soon be replaced by a tint job at Avon. Another VERY impactful appearance mod that everyone should consider doing. One of the keys for me was to still be able to see the turn signals instead of covering them. I love 'em.

    Worth the effort and time.

    ************************************************** *******

    Charger SRT Badge in grill:

$35 from the Dodge dealership, you have to point out EXACTLY where this badge is located on the Charger SRT grill or they cannot figure out the part number.

Clips right in, takes only seconds. Nice visual mod since the Magnum doesn't say SRT anywhere on the front.

Not sure if it's worth $35 for a pice of plastic, but it gets noticed and I like it.

    ************************************************** *******

    Billet shifter knob:

Aftermarket knobs suck. Period. Bought a $150 MOMO knob for my R/T and it sat up about 2" higher than stock (annnnnoying), and had a generic fitment using rubber sleeves so it never felt secure. When I bought the SRT I decided to stay away from knobs altogether because of this experience.

Then came along SRTOC.com member DEERAM who announced making these custom fit (threaded) and when I saw the revolver cylinder design I HAD to have one. I made two requests which he filled within an hour. Fill in the lettering with red paint, and lower the knob to exactly stock height. BAM! $110 well spent.

I could not be happier. It feels awesome in the hand, and the flat-top design is easier to use than the stock shifter. This is hands down one of my favorite mods.

    Worth every penny and more.

    ************************************************** *******

    LSD Vertical Door Kit:

Pictured here is the LSD hinge alongside one of the two stock hinges. Slight size difference:

    30 degree traditional opening:

Easily the most controversial mod, and one that took me a while to decide on. Lots of research revealed where some companies excell, and where they fall short. LSD was the clear and only choice although they are the most expensive. In this case, you get what you pay for. I purchased mine through one of our sponsors HHP Sales. Josh took excellent care of me and gave me a price about $500 lower than anyone else.

Easily the most visually impactive mod I have. You swing that door up anywhere and you are the center of attention. You can choose to open it as a regular door if you want to... but why??? LOL. 90 degree upward swing, or a 30 degree outward swing.

Fit is exactly like stock. NO wind noise, no leaking, door operation is smooth and they swing upwards almost effortlessly.

This is an expensive mod, but if it floats your boat, it is VERY well worth it. Expect to spend between $2500 and $3000 for parts and install.

    ************************************************** *******

I hope this helps anyone who might be considering any of these mods.

    Future mods include:

Painting SRT logos on all 4 wheels with red to match my Brembos.

Shaved door handles, remote poppers for all 4 doors.

    Functional Shaker hood.

Carbon Fiber interior kit (did this on last car).

High-flow cats (to increase performance, I'm happy with current sound).

Upgraded black/chrome wheels (way down the line, I love my SRT rims).

    Upgrade sound system.

Nice write up J. I was looking at a custom shifter knob, but the same concerns. Does DEERAM make them for my RT? Is it the same as your SRT? Of course I would drop the "S".. bummer for me...
