Just lost a race to a bone stock civic in my RT!

So I'm driving home from work for lunch on the highway today (1 exit up) in the right lane doing 70 in the middle of a line of traffic....again 1 exit, I just putter between the two exits because it's a short ride and all of a sudden I look over and a Civic is beside me...Eh whatever. He procedes to stomp on it 'leaving me in the dust'. Heheh Yep I guess he beat me reeeel good. Wait for the posts on the Honda forums, you know they're coming. Stock Civic no less from what I could see....Not an Si or CRX or whatever the 'hot' one with the whopping 160hp is Damn I'm slow!

Hehe....you know he probably thought that once you looked over the race was on....probably didn't know that the way to do it is 3 honks instead of just punch it. Gotta say that it was a good anti-kill for you since you didn't get into it with the turd though. Would have been funny to wait a few and punch it pass him and then slow back down to show him what real horsepower is all about...damn ricers.

I try to drive at or just below the speed limit so people who think they have a hotrod will try something. I just let them go. I know what the car is capable of. I don't need to use up my gas to show them. Highway driving is another story though. Our speed limit in AR is 70 mph. The magnum rides so smooth that when I look down at the speedo I'm doing 80. When I get pulled over, and I know I will, I will have to ask the officer if he has ever driven one then he would understand. Then I will take my ticket and pay the fine. They don't give breaks around here.

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

That Civic was probably T-charged or S-charged or had a motor swap. A lot of the Civics can be deceiving. Keep in mind that almost all cars nowadays are fast. Even soccer moms in Honda minivans............

Don't feel bad, on Sunday, a 2004 red corvette pulled up next to me at a red light. When the light turned green... you guessed it the turd shot me a look & floored it off the line. He then cut me off after leaving me in the dust. Talk about out classed, what was that moron in a vette thinking?... I didn't even try to race him, typical vette prick...

    Everyones a smartass

Before I had the Magnum I owned a Turbocharged 855T5R Volvo Turbo Wagon (hence the user name--picked before I bought the Magnum) that had a boost controller and some other subtle mods. It was as fast as a Mustang GT from 0-60. I had a lot of kids in Civics with fart cans and big wheels mess with me only to find out that the Volvo could smoke them not only from a stand still but even worse from a 50-70mph freeway roll. Now those same kids never even look at the Mag. I guess the HEMI hype has educated some of them. Thats okay too as I have nothing to prove with this car. 8)

I've been biteing my tongue reading all these posts about "ricers". I think a lot of people (I didn't say all) are "old school" mentality when it comes to these small cars. I sold my Celica GTS 6 speed prior to owning the Mag. The Celi weighs in at a fraction of the Mag and has 180 hp. Power to weight ratio...it's not rocket science. My car was an 01, the "new" compact cars coming out are closer to 200 hp and above. I used to go to the legal drags all the time. It was not unusual to see a "stock" version of my celica in the mid 14's. With a few mods they can get into the high 13's "NA" not turbo, super charged or squeezin'. I have not read enough posts here yet to see what the "RT's" are doin as far as quater mile times because my mag is only an "SE" so I don't want to get jealous LOL. But correct me if I'm wrong don't they run in the low 13's???? That is not a huge margin.
One time I was drivin down the 15 fwy minding my own business (in the Celi) and a guy pulled up next to me in a NASCAR lookin Monte Carlo shaking his head and waving his wallet out the window. At first I just ignored him...I don't belive in street racing. He kept taunting me, and taunting me for about 4 miles. I was in 6th gear, dropped down to 4th and took of like a rocket...should have seen the look on his face when I let him catch up to me. I pulled off at my exit and he followed. He got next to me at a stop light and said, "too bad you have to use nitrous to beat a domestic". I told him my car was stock except for an exhaust and intake and to quit watching stupid movies.

I can't speak for everybody, but for me you've hit the nail right on the head. In my mind, American muscle (I know there's scarcely such a thing as American-made anymore - no flames please) will always have more soul, and I haven't seen anything out of Japan that even comes close to changing my mind. That's why I drive what I do, and that's why I'm here. It's not a knock - it's just an opinion.

Other than my job, the single bigest reason I got rid of my Celica...? Every day a punk in a Pep Boy's special Honda with a fart can exhaust would try to race me. Since I spend all day in my car this got to be very old. It used to happen no less than 3-4 times a day. I LOVE MY NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OKOK, get over it defensive import lovers....This was BONE STOCK looking Civic with a plain old teeny little rusty exhaust. I'm an ex DSMer...I had a 12 second daily driver 4 banger (sold it Saturday no less!) I'm far from a rice basher but many of them do make me laugh! Now as for the Celica with 'some mods' running 13's normally aspirated...Uh yeah OK. The fastest Civic I've seen at the strip around here that wasn't stripped and made into a race car ran low 14s/high 13s with a turbo, just for the record. Don't think I've ever seen a Celica run better than 15s....Never really paid much attention to them. Of course going back to one of the super cool AWD Celica GTS's is another story..super sweet cars. This was not a Honda bashing post, it was a loser bashing post. Like I said I was in a line of traffic....Was I supposed to go through the car in front of me?! Or would the ricer way of passing in the breakdown lane have been more appropriate?...My point was that I didn't even REALISE he was trying to race me!
