initial sumitomo 255/55/18 review
ok, so wanting to get a set of fairly disposable tires while working out the alignment kinks, i lay my hands on the 90 dollar a piece sumitomo htr sport from tire rack. with an h speed rating, 480 utog it seemed pretty decent. and at 734 revolutions per mile, almost spot on for the speedo

well, now i have them on, and the alignment is dead on as well. so i guess i have to get used to them, as they may be on there a while.
all in all, i'm not too tore up about that fact. they do have a little road noise(not much, just a pinch, but hey, it's a truck tire, ya know?) and they are about 5 lbs heavier than the conti, but overall, i am very happy. very nice footprint, and they look very nice on the car. the ride, and grip are both improvements over the conti's.
aw well, i know this depends on the driving style as to weather you see the following as good or bad.
on the old conti's, i noticed on the two occasions that i turned off the esp and pulled out of a turn to break loose the rear end for a few seconds, that the car would zig and zag back and forth once or twice, then the car would find its line and snap into position so hard i felt my kidneys bruise. with the new tires on i decided to do this, and felt something different. now when you pull out from a stop to hard left or right, the car will still slide, but now the slide is a lot more controlled, with it coming to a quick, yet not jarring end, exactly where i wanted it on the first try.
as well, the burnout and sliding noise is lower tone and quieter. very nice.
did wnat a higher speed rating than i already had, but this seems to work well for me right now. very happy. i may monkey with the pressure later, but for now, staying at the 30 psi the car calls for
