I think we've got another Easter Egg -- Maybe a way to read stored trouble codes

    Verified this today.

Get in the car, close the door.

    Turn key to ON
    then back to ACC
    then to ON
    then back to ACC
    then to ON

Do this fairly quickly, you'll see "-----" in place of your odometer.

After a few seconds, you'll see a tribute to LXforum member "done". (Not quite sure how he arranged that setup.) The display changes to "-dOnE-".

Saw this recommendation over at 300cforums. The guy who posted claims that this is typical on most, if not all, DCX OBDII vehicles. Apparently, if there are any stored trouble codes, they will appear.

    Quoting his post:

This makes me think that the OBDII trouble codes can be pulled also. This trick has worked on Chrysler products since the mid Eighties at least. And still works on all current DCX products I've tried it on.

If someone can check this, I think it would be cool. Note that "ON" is just far enough to turn on all warning lights, but not enough to start. "Off" is just far enough back to turn those off. This should be done quickly, maybe 3-5 seconds for the turns, door closed.

    1. Insert key.
    2. Rotate key to ON
    3. Rotate key OFF
(NOTE: Turning key to ACC will suffice -- Tommy)
    4. On
    5. Off
    6. ON

So it's on the third time that you stop with the key ON. Any applicable codes should be displayed. If there are none, it should display "dONE" in the odometer window.

Note that this is not the same as the procedure where you hold the trip reset button and turn key to the ON position. That brings up something like software version. Or you can press the reset button again and it goes through a cluster diagnostic test I believe. I think that test also ends with the "done" message.

Sounds like a good addition to the KB. Anyone verify by actually pulling a code though?

I can verify this worked with my 97 Dakota...and it works on my wifes 99 300M...

I sucessfully pulled codes off the Dakota and 300M, and was able to look in a Haynes or Chiltons manual to see what the code meant.

As we dont have a LX car (yet), I cant help there...

Yup, just verified that it works!

Disconnected the sensor to the intake elbow (Air temp sensor). Went in and tried it. Got a "P0113" which is the code you get for INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH.

    Some pictures:

"INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH" error will set a code of P0113.

Once the codes have been displayed, you'll see "-----". If there are no trouble codes, the dashes will be the first item displayed.

After a few seconds, the display changes to "-dOnE-".

    NOTE TO SITE ADMIN:
Could you record all these little tips and tricks and store them in the Knowledge Base" so that when we need stuff like this later we won't have to search for it?
This kind of little trick pops up all the time and it would be cool to reference later from this site. (my lazy ass doen't want to have to do the work!) LOL

I just finished the writeup on this and DMAG has already approved and posted it in the KB section. Link.

    Don't forget this one. Link.

Both of these located in the Troubleshooting section of the Knowledge Base.

Link to list of OBD codes

Here is a link to a list of OBD codes I found via Goooooooooooooogle. There were other sites this has alot of information about the OBD system. I also posted this link as areply to the KB thread.

    http://www.obdii.com/codes.html

BTW this does work I have a code of P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)) & CEL is on but not flashing. I have an appointment tomorrow for the replacement of one cat and three oxygen sensors - it took the dealer almost two weeks to get the parts.

This method also works for the Cummins turbodiesel.
