Ok, let me first begin by saying I have NOTHING against SXT magnums, or SXT owners in ANY WAY.
Now that I have that outta the way...
SXT owners should not try to race.
I'm sitting at a light directly behind a Cool Vanilla SXT and next to him at the front was a 95 or 96 Impala SS. While the SS is not really a challenge for an SRT8, they are certainly no slouches in the power department (I got my butt handed to me by one when I had my R/T).
The SS owner probably has no idea how to visually distinguish between various levels of LX vehicles, and assuming he was next to an R/T he was revving his motor at the SXT. The SXT took the bait and they hit it right on green.
I wanted to put my head in my hands and weep for this poor guy. The SS quite obviously took him good. Then I started thinking about how the SS driver likely thinks he just beat an R/T, and well.... we can't have someone like that boasting to anyone who will listen that he smacked a Magnum, so I stepped up.
He has slowed back down tothe speed limit so I was able to gently nudge the throttle and catch up to him. As I passed the Magnum I had the inclination to wave a dissaproving index finger at him as I went by, but I held back.
I get next to the SS (who is quite cocky now thinking he'll just as easily take me down) and give him a thumbs up. He of course smiles big and mashes the gas hard.
I'm not one to take the time to toy with anyone, but I had to crush his ego. I let him get about 2 car lengths on me and then I pushed the pedal through the floor. My Blastin' Bob's pipes sang their song.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
And in a flash, as if he were standing still, I blew right by him. It was apparent that his SS was bone stock. Modified it would have at least been interesting for a second or two.
I saw a light changing up ahead and since I had him by a good 6 or 7 lengths I hit the brakes so that we could line up and get a serious race on at the light. He pulls up next to me and begins to roll up his window in shame. Not letting him off that easily I revved the hell outta my motor and let the pipes scream in his ear.
The light turns green and I hammer it leaving a nice patch of rubber on the road (surprising since my engine was all warmed up and it was about 92 degrees outside), and I saw him trying to keep up... it was on!
This time there was no letting up, it was time he saw what a Hemi was all about. I didn't even look back until I hit 120mph and when I did he was LITERALLY a speck in my mirror.
No he can go tell his friends about getting trounced by a Magnum. I'm sure he'll say it was an R/T... unless he really knows our cars.
So that is my story on how I had to save face for all of us Magnum owners.
