I was beat by a SRT4... should I be embarrassed?

I don't really know anything about how well the SRT4 performs so I'm not sure how embarrassed I should be... though any time a 4 banger beats a V8 its somewhat embarrassing. It wasn't really a fair race in my defense! He pulled up beside me on a four lane highway and we were both doing about 30 when he gunned it, I shifted down to 4th and floored it but it was too late he had shifted down and was pulling ahead. I gave in at around 70, at that point he had pulled to about his rear bumper to my front bumper. My car is bone stock too... I think if I had been more prepared and had my car already shifted down I would have done better but the mag has such a soft shift that it took it a second to get ready.

So should I be very embarrassed or only slightly embarrassed? Be brutal, cause to be honest I really don't give a flip. I just have to deal with the 16 year old driver smirking at me next time we pass each other.

The neon on steriods is a very light car. Sounds like he just got the jump on you or he was modified. Mopar offers several kits for these cars. One pushes the HP over 300 with no visible exterior changes! I wouldn't worry about it.

Most SRT's would take you easy. I know my SRT is much faster than my Magnum R/T. No contest. I do have mods on my SRT. I know of several stock SRT's that get as low as 13.8 in the 1/4mi. Do not be suprised. I beat a late 90's Vette on the freeway, you shoulda seen the look on his face, lol.

Stock vs. Stock the SRT-4 is a bit faster and also there is a ton of aftermarket stuff available for them so you should don't feel bad at all. If my budget for a new car was 20k then i'd be driving an SRT-4 right now.

According to Motor Trend (and their numbers are usually slower than those of Car and Driver), their 300C got to 60 in 5.8 seconds and their '04 SRT4 got their in 5.5 seconds. I read a test with the Magnum getting to 60 in 6.0 seconds. It's all about the power to weight ratio and the manual transmission. You're not driving a sports car. Just a big car/wagon with a big engine.

SRT-4's are badass mini-mites; VERY quick... no shame in losing to one.

We sold our SRT4 when we got our Magnum, it had about $38k invested in it, including big turbo, cams & 2 NX kits. It was a blast putting Z06 vettes to shame and watching old school muscle heads throw tempertantrums when a little Neon whooped up on em'. I have seen many of them go 13.8s in the 1/4 and our cars are running, what 14.4s?? I would say you fared pretty well for being stock.

The SRT4 is a pretty fun car and extremely easy to mod, we are in fact considering buying another one and building another street sleeper.

That night in Richmond. Doug and I talked to a guy at the gas station afterwards he was telling us he ran a 13.9##. He still had the numbers on his window as well. I think it was a red one.

stock SRT-4's are definatly quite a bit faster than the magnum RT's, the 04 STR-4's do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and 1/4 mile times in the high 13's, the magnums are more around 5.9-6.1 seconds and 1/4 mile times in the mid 14's
