Exclamation Huge problem when I stomp on the gas, PLEASE HELP

    I have a 2006 charger r/t

On the way back from the hospital last week, I went to pass a slow driver. I stepped on the gas and got in the passing lane. The car made a loud THUD sound and started to slow down even though my foot was on the gas. I let off and noticed that the RPMs were still at 5000 and weren't dropping even though I had my foot off of the accelerator pedal and the car was slowing down while at 5000 RPM.

    WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY BABY?!

What has it done in the past week since then??? Did you get a check engine light or any other dash lights lit up? Did it chime at you? Were the wheels spinning when it happened? Is it leaking anything?

Probably nothing. If you stomp the pedal down too hard, it goes into some kind of "limp" mode until you turn it off and restart it. The computer intervened in your driving. : )

Next time, don't stomp it so hard, just apply pressure to full throttle, no need to stomp.

^^ Limp mode will chime at you, light up your dash, lock you into 2nd gear and set your max RPM (thought it was lower than 5,000 RPM though). And yes, it would be fine after you shut off the car completely (opened a door) and restarted it. Means you broke traction and it freaked out :-)

It hasn't done anything in the past week. When I go turn the car on, but not actually starting it, there is a check engine light but when I do diagnostics there are no codes. The wheels weren't spinning and it didn't chime at me. It's not leaking anymore but it was leaking antifreeze but we got that fixed.

I have had problems with the car randomly chiming, the check engine light will flash and the car will make a thud sound and slow down for a second. And if I have cruise control on, it turns it off like the car had just reset. That problem occurs randomly when I'm driving, my g/f thinks it's due to the heated seats being on.

    Any thoughts on this one?

So, today the check engine light finally came on

P0520 -- Engine oil pressure sensor circuit

Could this be the problem with my car? AND where can I find one of these sensors, dealer only?
