How your dealer is going to sell you a Magnum

    DM.Net Exclusive.

John C. was kind enough to send me the new dealer "Customer Presentation Guide" and dealer info for the new Magnum.

Want to know how they are going to sell you a Magnum and what vehicles they are going to compare it against while making their sale? How should they present the vehicle on a test drive?

Take a look a a few pages I scanned in for an overview:

    Magnum vs. the Competition

    Magnum...New for 2005

 The SUVPS Three Minute Drill

 Demonstrating and Delivering the Vehicle

Mind you these are low-quality scans to preserve bandwidth. I will offer a full .pdf version later on.

    Hehe, I love those.

I have a couple FROM back in 2000/2001/2002, on the LHS, 300M, and Concorde.

Isn't it interesting that they are comparing the Magnum against everything FROM a car based SUV to a small-to-midsize wagon?

Its true that this beast doesn't have any DIRECT competitors in the same vehicle class (with the exception of much higher priced cars like the BMW 5-series wagon and Mercedes wagons)

Could be niche that needs to be filled. I always loved wagons. I think they offer the utility of an SUV with the practicality of a car.

I've always hated how these things include proprietary features. Well of course a Nissan isn't going to have an "Extreme Access" lift gate!

Don't tell me what I know, tell me what I don't know.

    Agreed.

I always get the evil eye FROM salesfolk when I know more about their product than they do. Especially when I point out to the person that he said something that isn't true!

Bad thing is that 99% of the time they tell you what you WANT to hear. Whether its the truth or not.

I have a Pacifica. Over on the Pacifica board there is a posting that a salesman told a perspective customer that he could watch a DVD movie while driveing by playing it on his NAVIGATOR that shows on the speedo surface. What a LOAD of poop. He told him he could LOAD it INTO the DVD Player and play it on the navigator. They are NOT EVEN CONNECTED. Wish I were there to have him SHOW me
Now that person (IF he had not come INTO the Pacifica Forum) would have complained to the world that his Pacifica was junk and didn't work and the dealer couldn't get it fixed, WHEN he wanted to watch his movie.

That question comes up alot on other forums... "Can /i play a DVD on my NAV unit?"

Why would you want to? You're driving! Ack!

Too bad that guy has a bad taste in his mouth over a sleezy salesman.

Hehe, but it's kinda fun to make 'em feel stupid, and point out that you are more educated than they are.

When I sold Dodges, I enjoyed seeing the reaction FROM customers who were expecting me to not know what I was talking about!

Exceeding the customer's expectations was always my goal. If they didnt learn something FROM me about the vehicle, they were simply not listening!

Sadly, being knowledgable and loving the products you sell, do not always make you a successful salesman. I was too straight-forward to ever compete with the "fast talkers".

That's too bad, because you are the type of saleperson that the buying public wants!

No one enjoys leaving the dealership feeling "greasy". Unfortunately, its all to common.

Your right. I thought about selling new Chrysler vehicles also when I retired. I have always kept up to date on all aspects of the vehicles. Talking to some good sales men I have know, I found that I really didn't want to do this. The MANAGEMENT people they usually have to deal with is usually their problem.
I have always been critical of salesmen who sit around drinking the coffee and not boning up on the product they sell. When the buyer knows more about the product then the salesperson, something is WRONG.

Yes, its very wrong. I was lucky to work for a dealer who himself was often out looking under the hood of the cars on the lot, talking to the sales team and asking us questions, etc. He is a rare breed in the car business, a dealer who has enthusiasm for the products he sells. He even used to race Mopars in the early 60's.

But even in that environment, there were fast talkers, salesmen who came and went FROM one store to another and never really learned any particular product line. They knew how to close deals though, and I really didnt. My only successes came by making the customer fall in love with the car, to the extent that price became a secondary concerrn to them. And that really works on only a small fraction of car buyers these days.

Some of the sales managers like you said are just horrible. I would say that you just cant have much of a conscience and do that job successfully, FROM what I saw. I usually used my own words and didnt just repeat what the boss told me to say to the customer. I knew that his words coming FROM my mouth, would sound contrived and insincere.
