    how is this possible?

I was just in my car listening to Sirius Satellite radio.

Only the thing is...my car was in the garage w/ the door down!

How in the heck was the satellite signal getting to my car's receiver?!? In the past, it always cut out when I pulled into the garage. Not this time, though. Is that freakin weird or what?!?

Where you located? In cities, buth Sirus and XM have but land based repeaters of the signal, since the shadows of the buildings quite often mess with the signals.

So it could be, that they recently put one up in your city.

City?!? AHH-HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! That was a good one there!

I live out in the middle of nowhere about 45 miles north of the Metro Atlanta area. If they put a repeater out here, it's probably ONLY servicing me.

This happens to me all the time... pull in the garage and lose the signal. But if I sit there long enough... it comes back, or it's there the next morning when I'm ready to leave again (albeit with the door open). I guess just enough signal reflect through the garage windows, etc., that the auto-signal-gain thing (if there is such) finally find it and locks in.

    That's my guess anyway...

I'm not even going to ask why you were sitting in your car, in the garage listening to the radio.

    Ditto.

Think about it, when the garage is closed all you have between you and the signal is a 1/2" of sheetrock , 3"/8 of plywood, and some asphalt shingles. With the garage door open, you have all of that plus a large piece of sheet metal hovering two feet over your Sirius antenna.

Sirius uses a trio of Loral FS1300 satellites in unique elliptical orbits in an effort to avoid the problems posed by geostationary satellites.

The orbits, shaped like figure eights, allow the satellites to appear higher in the sky than XMs, cutting down on the potential for a listener to be out of range of a satellite signal -- and allowing Sirius to have a much smaller number of repeaters.
Sirius repeater network also avoids the need for specialized antennas that can track the company's non-geostationary satellites as they move about the sky,

Sirius feeds its repeaters using capacity on a geostationary satellite leased from a traditional satellite operator. Listeners cant tell that the signals they receive via the repeaters do not travel over Sirius fleet of satellites.

The Sirius satellites each spend about 16 hours over the United States, then whip around the other side of the Earth and return eight hours later for another stint hovering over Sirius listening area.
    .
Two Sirius spacecraft cover the United States at any given time allowing for an angeled attitude as opposed to a "straight down" direction one might expect. Thus, the chance for a direct satellite signal or repeater signal is more likely.

Or it could be the sound Gremlins.

I'm scrolling, looking, wondering if someone else besides me, knows how it works... Then I get to the end and FINALLY!!!!

Yup, that's how it works. XM has ROCK and ROLL (and a third actually) that are geosynchronous, so you can predictably know where they'll drop out. Because the Sirius birds are always on the move, it changes.

Wood's not going to stop the signal like metal will, so a wood garage door may deteriorate it, but a steel door can wipe it out. But if your garage isn't metal on the roof, then it can come right through. Depending on the materials of course...

XM depends on repeaters. They even placed a delay in the mix to try to make up for the difference they loose during outages. Good for some I guess but it seems that Sirius has the upper hand and right idea as far as getting the signal constant.
