How much weight can the seats handle?

I have a good friend and would like to take him for a ride in my Magnum. He is very big and wide and heavy. He was a division one college wrestler back before there a maximum weight limitation. Any one remember the Olympic wrestler from the 70's, Chris Taylor? He weighed 450 lbs. My friend is heavier. I'm thinking between 500-600 lbs, probably on the upper end of that range, possibly more. He is the guy that put me on to the Magnum, so it seems an injustice that I don't give him a ride. But...I'm afraid the seat may never be the same. Most chairs will hold him, he only broke a weld on one chair in my office. My friend never mentioned anything about replacing car seats. He is quite a sight in his Sebring convertible. Anyone have any experience along these lines? Do the seat springs just compress to the seat frame under heavy weight? Does that damage them? What is the worst case, the cost of replacement seat? How much is that?

I realize there is an element of humor here, but I am not exaggerating. Also, I'm not a minnow myself, our combined heft approaches the GVWR of the Magnum. (Yes, I have the leveling shocks.)

I gave a ride to a friend of mine that fits in that size, No damage to the seat but, the air bag warning light came on for the passenger seat and the dealer had to re calibrate it. Might have just been a coincidence though.

No coincidence. I had to be the DD for some of my buddies, we went bowling.. I had 4 people in the back seat, and 2 in the front passenger. One of them is my good friend ,he weighs about 250-270lbs, and his gf was on his lap (big girl), i would say she weighs about 300-325. Yeah i know it wasnt safe, i was doin the speed limit. the day after that my passenger side airbag light went off, i knew what it was from, but never got it recalibrated... hasnt come on since. The seats can take alot, im a bigger guy (350 or so), no problems here.

That would be the passenger classification system... If your weight is out of range for the airbag, it will disable it temporarily.

I get this light every time I sit my laptop case on the front seat while driving.

Remember guys these are off the shelf MB seats, I also find it amazing about the weight handling of the seats in a VW. Must be all those big beer drinking Germans they build them for, but I don't think you want to try it in a Toyota.

Thanks for the input! The responses were more helpful than expected.

I'm trying to get my courage up to try it.
