No. We don't have true hemi's. It's marketing.

And, they are not truly hemispherical. But who cares?

Not even the famed 426 Hemi had true hemispherical combustion chambers. This was due to the forced valve angles from retrofitting hemi heads to a block that was designed for wedge heads. The only "true" hemi engines Chrysler ever produced were the original FirePower (Chrysler) FireDome (DeSoto) and Dodge (Red Ram) engines from the 50s.

I've been told that this pushrod, valve and head arrangement is better called a "double rocker".
I'm no expert: but this is what I've been able to figure:

The combustion chamber in our heads is not half a sphere, so not truly hemi, but is rounded with some other shapes.

That makes it different from the common "pent roof" heads commonly used today.

The use of "Hemi" is a marketing tool. Not a bad one, at that.

    It isn't easy being GREEN

Compared to the other engines at the time, the profile of the compression chamber was more hemispherical or 'pent-roof' where the intake & exhaust valves were set at angles opposite each other, compared to the side-by-side arrangement of other motors. Eventually, almost all piston engines went towards the domed/hemispherical/pent-roof trend.

You can see the difference and tell which one really has a 'hemispherical' combustion chamber.

It's all about marketing... Just like how the parts boxes stopped saying Chryco on them and now often say Mopar. (Or Mercedes...LOL!)

*ahem* ... Actually, the 3.5 V6 is more of a "Hemi" than the "Hemi" is!

If these are all pictures from late models, then we still have the closest thing to a true hemisphereical shape, so I don't know if it is "all" marketing. Either way I like my MoPar...
