    Help with Gas mileage

Just picked up my baby a few days ago and in two days, she drank ½ tank of go juice at 78 miles. We have tones of stop and go traffic and a couple of WOT’s but I have never experienced this poor of gas mileage. Could the change in humidity from Oklahoma affect the car? I have no fault lights on.. This poor gas mileage has resulted in me riding the scooter, but that’s not all bad. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

My mileage has gotten noticeably worse in this heat. It's helped to keep the tranny in D and try to keep the RPMs at or under 2000.

I wish a hole, then could fix it... Need to do some thing... AFFESS raised there prices of gas 29cents in one day, the jerks.. They say we have to match the price in the states even though we don’t have state, county, and federal taxes here.

Hmmm....are you able to get it checked out by a trusted mechanic?

Did you put that gas in the tank, or did you get it with the gas in it? Could it be old gas? The wrong gas?

Maybe get this tank done and put a fresh tank in, and see if there is a difference?

I really think it might just be the horibble stop and go traffic. Theres over 11 million people in Seoul and the traffic really sucks. It takes some times 1 hr to drive 5 miles. I see why people ride the subway. Maybe all the idling time killed the gas mileage.

Just for confirmation, are you saying you recently received your car after having it shipped from Oklahoma to Korea? If that's the case then maybe it would be a good idea to just make the control modules reset themselves by pulling fuse #11. That way your car will have a fresh start at adjusting itself to driving in the new conditions it finds itself in.

Even if I have it wrong (about shipping to Korea, etc.), if poor fuel economy was affecting my car I would still do that procedure to reset the control modules to default values and let it start learning and adjusting itself all over again. Couldn't hurt!

I've read that a minute or so ought to do it.

Is the octane value of the fuel there significantly different than here? That would contribute to a change in fuel economy - lower octane will make the computer retard the timing to prevent knock/detonation. Of course, there's always the usual tires-up-to-pressure check (I run 38 psi ft/36 psi rr). A drop of even 5 psi resulted in poorer mileage on mine.

    Hope that works!

Not yet, I will be going on a long highway trip this weekend 300km and hope to be able to figure out whats going on. The octane reads 93 at the pump, but some one said that they use a diffrent method to determine octane in asia. I'll pull the chip, check tire pressure, and fill it up. I also added a gas adative incase there was water in the fuel.
    Thanks all for the comments.

Yeah, running a few tankfuls and then checking it should tell a more accurate story. If it came off the boat after sitting 'Stateside' for a while the fuel in the tank might have degraded somewhat. Topping it off would have diluted it with good stuff but it would still have to be run through. I'd run the gas tank as empty as you comfortably can before filling up again - run that old stuff out of there (if that's what's in there). And I'd do that BEFORE I pulled fuse 11. If the computer is reset with the car still running on stale fuel it will try to learn how to manage with that crummy gas, then it will have to re-adapt to the fresh stuff when it gets it.

    .....I'll stop talking now.
