Help with gas Milage - 06 Magnum R/T AWD

My gas milage is rediculous. I have a 2006 Magnum R/T AWD. I'm running 35psi in all 4 tires and babying the throttle, crusing on the highway under 100-120km/h. My gas milage is so bad, 8mpg in the city, 16 on hwy. The car is only a couple weeks old, so I imagine it will break in more, but those numbers are rediculous. I can watch the fuel gauge go down! I'm recieving no trouble codes, and I just know that the dealer will do nothing for me. Any ideas? Commom problem?

    wow that sucks...

How many miles do you have on it?

hwy driving should be a full tank (from Full to the "give me fuel light"), Cruise set at 65 or 70 mph. You should get 20+ with that driving.

Anything less than that is not an accurate guage of the vehicle.

City driving... I get 8-11mpg sometimes when I go for a month, just going to/from work.. work is a 4 mile drive, stop lights every 2 blocks... never get above 30 mph. Even at 8 mpg, thats 3 weeks of driving... the reason its so bad, is that the engine never warms up, and is always in cold-start enrichment mode...

What are your driving habbits? how do you guage "city" and how do you guage "hiway"?

I don't know my exact mileage is, because I've never really calculated it, I just fill it up when it needs gas. With just some rough math I'm getting somewhere in the 14MPG range in mixed city and hwy driving, mostly city. Also run 35psi, and never baby the throttle.

    mileage

Car has roughly 1500miles on it. I know it will break in and get better milage, but even then, judging by what I am getting now, I won't get anywhere close to what others are getting. Highway driving is 100-120km/h, city driving is just around town. But I really am going light on the throttle. If I honk in it a couple times I can get it down to 6mpg.

Hmm,I average 20-23 in my RT. I tow an 18' flatbed trailer and still get 18mpg. Maybe you need a reflash? BTW my 4x4 QC Hemi Ram has averaged 18.3 mpg for the last 2 tanks. 8 mpg is about what the old 426 hemis got. The Superchip tuner should help unless there is a faulty sensor either in the motor or exhaust. If a sensor is telling the conputer that the motor is 20 degrees F it will use a lot of gas. If your dealer can't find it,maybe someone here could suggest a competent one near you. Funky Chicken may have suggestion, cause 8 mpg ain't right.

You need to put some more miles on it to see better mileage........

    A Superchips would also help.................................

I get 18 mpg in Florida with the a/c on all the time (city driving)

Have gotten as high as 31 mpg (no kidding) at 55mph, no a/c and using cruise control..........with my Superchips Flashpaq.

Maybe add a few more pounds of air in your tires....37-38 pounds.

I have 21,000 miles on mine now.

I really think that the AWD drivetrain may be the culprit of the bad mileage. I jnoticed that most of the RWD crowd looks at 18-22mpg.. i usually get 220miles a tank! However after headers and frankentake it has gone up to 260 a tank.
Hopefully after superchips i can get a good 280 a tank.

The EPA mileage sticker is so far off on AWD cars..

WHOOO!! That sucks gas! OW! I am not concerned over mileage as fuel cost but over power wastage. I am thinking that there is a lot of gas that could be making power just farted down the pipes.
I drive like I am gonna get a prize where ever I go in city and I never get less than 12-14MPG. On the hiway I CAN get 33MPG in cruise at 65 with the AC on w/o SuperChips OR a JCII..
    2 things:
You need to find another dealership
You need to VERY closely monitor over the next 3 weeks or so , just what conditions make that needle swing..

Its like my grandpa said when saw a dragqueen walking down the streets of Atlanta:
I aint too sure, but sumpin aint right here!

    And the dead shall walk

No, I get 22 on the highway with my AWD at a steady 78 mph. All my town driving is short stop and go, so nothing great but still get 14 or so.

Try a different gas station if you have'nt already. I know when my car has Ethanol 10% it is worse. Try pure gas if possible. Hope things get better.

My RT/AWD does about 20mpg mixed driving. It is about 17 in town and 22 highway (at 75-80mpg), seen as high as 26 on the highway as long as I keep it under 70.
