    Haveing a radio problem

Fist off...sorry fot the long post...I have been haveing these 2 problems, which I am sure are related, with my 6 disc MP3/CD player since we got the car.....usually 1-2 times per month.

1st problem - I will lower the volume on the radio a little then can't turn the volume back up....I can always turn it down farther, just not up at all. When volume reaches 0, your outta luck. This can occure when I start the car or when I am just driving down the road...

2nd Problem - entire radio unit shows no power at all....completely black. This has always happened when I first start the car....there just won't be any power to the unit.

These problems seem to be completely random. Sometimes I can just turn the car off and turn it back on and the problem is solved. Other times I Have to actually go into the back and pop out the fuse for the radio. I immediately put the fuse back in and ... voila ... problem goes away.

I have taken this into the dealership 3 times in the last 6-8 months for this problem. It inevitably fixes itself before my appointment and the dealership always says the same thing..."unable to recreate the problem." In other words "we ain't gonna do nothin ta fix'er".

The dealership says that they haven't heard anything about a problem like this before. Anyone else have this problem or heard of it? Anyone electrically inclined who might have any ideas about the cause or the cure since the dealer mechanics don't seem to have a clue?

I had your first problem but I have the single CD player. There is a flash for the radio I believe. Might want to check the TSB's for it. The dealer flashed mine for the first one. Don't know about the second one.

TSB 08-018-06 No Radio Audio or Display Following Engine Crank

Corrective action is to reprogram radio software. Directions say "If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the symptom/condition, perform the repair procedure.

This is dated 2 May so maybe it wasn't published until after your last visit.

I've had the first problem a few times. The latest, Tuesday. Took it to the dealer one time when it was happening. Service took the car and "reset the radio". Told me if it happened again, they would replace the radio. Happened again but was working when I got to the dealer. Was told by the same service man they have to see it doing it again. Tuesday, while I was out, it did it again. Drove right to the dealer and showed them. He's ordered a new radio. Not sure if this will solve the problem. At the same time, I had to use my wipers.
    First click-intermittant
    Second click- continuous wiping
    Third click- intermittant
Stayed intermittant for the next couple clicks until last two which was continuous and fast continuous. I have the single cd radio with steering wheel controls. Think the problem might be in the wiring in the steering column as the wiper wiring is there also. wiper started working ok when i got to the dealer. Also radio started working when I started car to leave.

I have this same problem with the wipers ..... at first I thought it was acting like the high end rain/speed sensing systems that automatically adjust the wiper speed .... but then it would randomly do it and other times not....

Wiper issue is a known problem, they have to replace the stalk I believe. Mine does it too but I haven't replaced it yet.
