So damn custom, I don't even need a sig!
lol. your 2.7 will never be a hemi no matter how much you do to it. I have test driven an RT charger and magnum and the 300c and the difference 100hp(well 160 for you) makes is amazing. I will probably be making the jump here pretty soon. Just can't decide on a magnum or a charger.Originally Posted by chuckles_1205
UM SO have use a Gtech? from the sounds of it your just bashing a V6 that's ok your RT is crap anyways because the srt will beat it. So I am just wondering if you tried this product.

Will someone please call the fire dept. That flamin' is getting out of control.
I think it is a very legit question. I too have a V6, 3.5, and while we all know it will never be a HEMI, that shouldn't stop us from working on it to increase performance.
If you want to go that route, why don't you just start bashing all the HEMI guys that don't have the SRT.
C'mon. I'm fairly new to this site, but every day I see someone getting flamesprayed for something stupid.
1. This is a forum for LX owners- that includes the V6 guys.
2. There is no stupid question.
3. The search function on this site sucks.
Of course, I'll probably get sprayed for this comment too. Oh, well. It's my $.02.
Alright let me just end this before it gets worse. I did not mean anything by the comment I made. I love my mag, I just wish it had more power. Chuckles asked the question about how people like their Hemi's. I took that as meaning he was thinking about upgrading and wanted to know if anything was going to help his 2.7 liter out. All I meant by what I said was that youll probably spend over $1500 in performance mods(like I have) and it is still nowhere near what even the 5.7 is. I am waiting to see what the MorpheusProject will do to help me out before I step up to the RT or SRT8
So,
1) Yes I know, I have one
2) I never said anybody was stupid
3) Yes the search needs some work.
I know it sucks guys honestly. I wanted to have the baddest v6 on here but the amount of money that is going to be spent on a turbo/supercharger(let alone to have someone install and tune it) just to get it to be as fast as even the 5.7 then what your going to spend on the suspension to get it to handle like the 5.7 and finally the brakes (if you want) is going to be at least $10k. And lets not forget that with a turbo or super you gas mileage is going to go down and mine is already worse than the hemis. All I am saying is that I have done every performance mod that is available to the v6 right now and I have test driven two 5.7s now and it isn't even close. So I could drop 10g's into my sxt(and be maxed out on power) or take the 10'gs and go get an srt8 and still have plenty of room to mod.
Actually, the search function works very well except for when you are looking for a post by an author. It takes you to the thread but not to one or more of the actual posts.
The 3.5L V6 is a HEMI design, they just don't market it as one. The 2.7L I don't know much about. The 3.5L does quite well in these cars. Like the LH platform before, no one wants to make much in performance mods for them. You wind up having to do things custom. Prowler owners and some 300M owners have done N20, turbos, and supercharger mods with very custom installations. Contact IDA Automotive in Englishtown, NJ area, as they have expertise in the 3.5L V6 market.

Well, lets look at what it would actually take for performance.
The SXT is 250hp out of the box, the Hemi is about 100hp+ more. What's the cost difference of the 2.
I paid $22K for my SXT, a Hemi would have cost me $35K. So, for the $13K difference I know I could get better performance in the SXT for less money. If you Buy the Hemi, then you will sink even more $$ into it to upgrade that. Sure in the end, the Hemi will always be a better platform.
I went through the same issue with my Neon. I bought the SXT rather than the SRT4, but ended up with a better performing car for much less $$.
I did a custom turbo on it, and since I did the work myself, it only cost me $800. Sure it wasn't the best set up out there, but I'll be hard fetched to find anything else out there that will give the performance upgrade I got on a dollar for dollar comparison. A custom turbo set up can run $3K-$5K. By doing it the way I did it I saved a bundle.
Now, I'm not a mechanic, and when I turbo'd the Neon, that was the most work I had ever done on a car. I installed it and had it running in 9 hours. A custom turbo job installed by a shop can take as long as a month to do. Here is a pic of what I did. It isn't the prettiest out there, but let me tell yu, it worked like a champ.
I'm certain that soeone who is more savvy than myself could easily add a nicer set up to a V6 Magnum for under $2K, and show a lot more than 100hp gain.

An RT is about $2500 more than an SXT. No matter how you slice it, spending thousands on mods on a car that will never come close to one for half the cost of the mods is dumb.
I need to find the dealer that is selling the R/T's for only $2500 more than the SXT. In my neck of the woods they are running mid $30K, with the SRT's closer to $50K.Originally Posted by desquirrel
I guess that's just how I "dice it".
If you look at the stickers they aren't that much more expensive BUT that doesn't really mean anything. It all depends on how bad the dealer is wanting to move their inventory. I've seen specials of SXT's in the lower 20's but their stickers are upper 20's. RT's start out in the upper 20's but easily go into the low to mid 30's with less of a chance of a discount.Originally Posted by davisjpt
Point is that you can't say how much any car would be for certainty, some members have posted that SRT8's are being discounted in some parts of the country.
I had an RT so I don't know about this product, but I am thinking about trading our Durango for a SXT Magnum so I would love to hear about what other mods you've done to the engine and their results!

its not just the power I am talking about here its everything that you can get on an rt. My sxt is the base model with the exterior appearance package. so that means I have no steering wheel controls, no evic, no autostick, no leather, no sunroof. so yes, I could probably get the car up to hp ratings of a 5.7 with a turbo. But I seriously doubt that one can do a custom fabbed turbo setup for $2k. You show me a written estimate for this car and i'll believe it. Maybe for the parts. Then again, you still have to upgrade the suspension and even at the cheapest, parts are going to be $1200. So that is where I get the figure of $10k
Sunroof - 1000+
Leather - 1000+
Suspension - 1200+
Turbo - 5000+
Brakes - don't know what the RT brakes would cost but brembo package is 5000
hey there is no need for the flamin really. it is a good question. One I would like to hear as well.

It is easy to justify a scenario by comparing a loaded RT to a base SXT. But they're still only about $2500 apart base. When I got my car, the dealer stock all had sunroofs, which you couldn't pay me to have. So I ordered mine. And RTs are steeply discounted just like the others in the East.
While all this is great. I'm glad you can do math everyone and I am interested in what you all have been saying, but.....Can we get back to original question please?
