    The Great PCM experiment....

I am starting this thread now just because I am bored at work. LOL!

Saturday I am going to do an experiment on my car (insert evil laugh here). I am going to attempt to flash my 05 Magnum with the 06's PCM software. The reason this is a fairly big deal is that the 06 software is more than twice the size of the 05 software. And, according to fnkychkn there are 6 PCM part numbers listed for the 05's and 10 for the 06's. I am not worried that if the software is loaded it won't work and I will be stuck. I am sure that I can revert back to the 05's software without issue.

I have a couple of reasons for trying this. First I am hoping that with the 06's software in there, the very latest CCN software (cruise in evic display) will work properly. The second reason deals with Morpheus and providing a commonality of software.

First thing I will have to do is revert to stock with the superchips tuner. Then modify a file and force starscan to send the 06 pcm software. After that I will try to start the car and drive around some to see if there are any issues with the new pcm software. If all is ok, I will send the ccn software and do some testing with it. There were a number of parameters that did not work with the 06's ccn software loaded (oil pressure indication, engine temperature, pedal position plus more). But I think this may be due to some changes with the pcm software that the CCN software was looking for and couldn't find. We shall see. LOL!

I can't remember, has superchips corrected the issues with the 06 software yet??

Cool Beans man!! Good luck. And to try to answer the SChips question, i'm more than sure the answer is no. Most of the guys on the Charger forums are still having the same problems(with surging). I think everything else though is ok(ofcourse some still complain about versions v.1vs v1.02 one being better than other). I think Schips is kind of obligated to fix the earliest rides (which i believe they will release next week). From there, they will probably move to some more intense debugging of the 06 PCM's. Maybe you could email them and see if ya get a response. Either way BRO.... YOU DA MAN!!

this info was pm'd to MF from home where i could not differentiate between engine applications. i have since narrowed my search field at work (5.7L only) and the results were very different. 2 P/N's for '05 and 3 P/N's for '06.

keep striving for ultimate heminess MF.

there are 2 part numbers for 2005 5.7L:
    up to 06/28/04 4896678AG
    after 06/28/04 4606837AE

according to starparts, there are 3 different numbers for 2006 5.7L:
    4896570AD, 4896600AD, 5094588AD.
i have not been able to find the reason for the different part numbers and when i try to check for supercedence, these part numbers don't exist.:?

    i'll keep looking.

With regard to the 06 code being twice the size, I've seen things like that happen with application software I test when it's compiled in "debug" mode. The code is MUCH larger, runs a little slower, but is MUCH easier to troubleshoot thanks to extra diag info. Could it be that this is the reason the reason the 06 software is so much larger?

Ok, had some fun learned a few things. There was definitely a significant hardware change from 05 to 06. When trying to flash the pcm with the 06 software, it would just start to initialize the flash, then a couple of seconds later it would inidcate that the flash was complete. Almost as if it would not initialize the correct flash mode or it detected that there was not enough available memory and just moved on. Hard to tell, the starscan leaves a little to be desired when it comes to error handling. I tried all of the available pcm flashes for an 06 and it liked none of them. :(

As far as the flashpaq is concerned, when reverting back to stock before you go to the dealer, if the technician is smart enough he/she will be able to see that something has been done to the pcm. I will not post the info here for all of dcx to see so if you NEED the information pm me and I will tell you. I do not know of a way to correct the issue without a starscan. If anyone from superchips reads this thread, please contact me via pm for more information. This could in effect cost owners some money when going back to the dealer. Although the chance is small it does exist.

I learned a few things for the Morpheus project which made all of this worthwhile.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. LOL!
