    Follow-up for LED bulb folks

I absolutely love the taillight assemblies from Factor One Garage. I don't usually join group buys, but this time I couldn't wait. They are at least OEM-quality materials, fit, and finish. The brake lights are BRIGHT!!!!

Additionally, I wanted to replace the other two bulbs with LED replacements. I chose a 5-LED back-up bulb, but it is not bright enough. I am waiting on a 9-LED version. The 25-LED turn signal is plenty bright. However, the Mag's computer thinks a bulb is out, so it hyper-flashes. I am waiting on a resistor kit that should remedy this. Has anybody else successfully installed this kit? See below:

You can get away with the 15 ohm resistors.. i have them on my car.. they are smaller, and generate much less heat...

    12V through 5 ohms is 2.4 amps. (28.8W)
    12V through 15 ohms is 800mA (9.6W)

But really, even 3ohm would work as long as you kept them away from any plastic.. heck, may even get hot enough to provide some additional light.

You need one for each corner on the LX's. some cars have one per side.. (not ours)

I have the Amber Tower II's in my car.. (at the back) but find that they are not bright enough... and led for backup is crazy.. I have found some halogen reverse lights. (haha would be like a headlight on the back).. but at 85 dollars a pair, I am going to pass on them.. Was considering them and was also thinking of a switch in the car to turn them on at will too.. someone following too close.. crack on the halogens in the tail.

    Talking

I was with Ratman this afternoon, and he hooked up a 15-ohm resistor to no avail. The hyper-flashing continued even with the 15-ohm resistor in parallel. I am interested in the kit also. Did your resistors come in a kit like the one pictured? Or did you go to Radio Shack and pick up some bulk resistors? Ratman used Radio Shack's simple resistors without a heat sink. I wonder if he burned them out.

Do you say crazy using LED's for backups because they aren't very bright? Or is there some other reason? I personally have no doubt the 9-LED backup bulbs will provide more than adequate light for backing. I don't need headlights in the rear!

Came from the same place.. they sell the 15's as well..

Maybe I was just lucky... but it *did* work for me.. the blinkers are not on much so It would take ALOT of usage to heat the resistor enough to cause any issues.

You need high wattage resistors.. chances are that he fried them quick. I think that most of the little ones are 1/4 watt.. maybe 1/2.. so dumping 10W through them would kill them quickly.

    dacbeth,

I just went to DesignTech's website, http://www.designtech-intl.com/, and they have some neat stuff! Thanks for the heads up.
