FOG Lamps on with High Beams

Another member asked me if this was possible via the starscan. So, I went out and did some checking. Guess what?!?!? It is possible!! I have changed it on my car and tested it to see if it works. And it does. My fog lights now stay on with the high beams.

I will post a knowledgebase article later today with full details on how to get this enabled on your car.

This is really handy if you travel back country roads and need some additional lighting that is closer to the car when the high beams are on.

Either way you have to dim your high beams when someone comes along anyway. So I am not sure where the impact would be. But thanks for the heads up.

Thanks, Andrew, I was going to be heading over to my dealer later to have this very thing done. Your post will streamline things a lot.

Are you running HIDs on your ride? I can barely tell when even my 100W (vice the stock 42W) fogs are added to my HID high beams.

I'm doing it primarily to increase the visual presence of my Hemi for the benefit of other drivers. Sort of the visual version of an air horn.

HERE IS A COPY OF THE STEPS AS MAGNUMFREAK SENT IT.

    THANKS AGAIN MF.

"Awesome news. I just spent a little time with the starscan looking for the feature you mentioned. Guess what?!!? It is available.

Go to vehicle preparation. Fog lamp output. Start this program. First thing it will do is ask you if you want to enable the output for the fog lamps. Just click next. Next question is the magical question. Your car is set to US/Can/Mex, set it for export by clicking on the button that says export. Hit finish, wait about 20 seconds and BAM!! You have fog lights that will stay on with the high beams. I have tested it and it works. I am running version 6.04 if there are any questions as to version.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Later,
    MF
    Imports... It's what's for dinner!

Thanks guys. I'll be at my dealer's later today.

Here's a question for the both of you:

What other settings have an "Export" option. That would be great to know. Maybe we've been overlooking the obvious in our prior attempts at opening up our LXes a bit.

In-motion NAV lock out? (The Euro 300Cs have in-motion NAV programming enabled. I'd love to enable it in mine.)
    Speed limiter?

Just thoughts - are probably many more areas to explore here.

May have to do some testing. There is one setting that is for the country code of the car. However, it does give a warning prior to changing it. I may just change it anyway. LOL! I can always change it back. Wonder if it will change the speed limiter if I give it a different country code. hmmmmmmm!

Did it about an hour ago MF. So we know that DRLs and flamethrowers (6 very bright forward quadrant lights as the high beam norm) are compatible.

Works like a champ if you follow Lee's instructions precisely...

Damn, funky, you done let all the air out of my anticipation balloon. I already had my test run for greatness planned for early tomorrow morning. 'Would have been a fun run even if she did feather out at 127 MPH as always. Now I just lost my excuse.

Though I wasn't highly optomistic that the speed limiter had been removed, for a whole bunch of reasons. The crippling of in-motion NAV inputs, absent from Euro 300Cs, still as nasty as ever was the first positive verifier that this was no carte blanche "Whee! I'm in Europe!!" change.

The location of the "Export" tab itself, of course, is the first implicit hint that this change would affect fog logic only.

And while I've got you on the line, superbird, have yourself a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! You're highly appreciated.

Would it work on the early versions like 3.54? Mine hasn't been updated and I'm not sure the Dealer would/ could do it. I'm going in Wed. for oil and tire change.

In many states, it is illegal to have fog lamps on at the same time as high beams. Is this not a concern or are we talking about using this option "off road"?

I was once stopped in Mass. by the State Patrol because I had fogs on in a rental car and it wasn't raining. I took a minute to figure out where the switch was and I got a warning about knowing my car and it's controls before operating a vehicle in the state of Mass. I did not come away with a nice opinion of Mass as a result. Apparently some states are sensitive about "illegal" use of fogs.

I would assume (yea, I know) that the switch would turn the fogs off when not needed and not be an "all the time" thing.. So you could use them when needed on "back roads" or if it's raining.

In Arizona we're essentially allowed to get creative - the highway patrol understands the threat of range cattle on the roads night.

The issue, at least in Arizona, is that you are not allow to have more than 4 lights on in front while driving on public roadways. If you add it up high beams + fogs is 6 lights.
