Question Fiber glass Body Work question

All fo you with body work experience, I need your opinion.
I'm getting my hood prepped for paint and having the fake vents filled in as well. Some of you here have said to let the hood cure after prepping before the final paint....drive around with the unfinished hood on for a while.....
The body shop guy said it wasn't necessary to do this and any ripples or shrinkage could be wet sanded out.
What do you guys think about this? Should I be a little wary?
    Thanks for your help!
    Take care,
    Christopher

I guess do as he says and if it doesn't go to your liking make him repair for free, after all, you're following his suggestions.

I would let it cure a bit.And don't drive around with it in bare glass, make sure there is a gel coat or at least a sealer coat on it.

It also depends on the quality of the products they use. Higher quality products dont shrink as much.

How can I tell what products they use and if they are good quality or not? Which ones are better than others?

It would be better to put it on drive it for a few days ,then have to return and have the work done over and loose your ride again for a week.

I had mine filled in on my R/T, took them 4 times to come close to even getting it looking good, and then as time went by it kept looking worse and worse!

If he says there wont be a problem, then he is most likely using high end products.

You should fill them in if that is the look you want, like said above, ask him to get it into primer, and tell him you are more comfortable letting it "shrink back" before they do the finish work.

I would agree with this statement.
Even though todays high end products don't shrink much. It is advisable to let it sit a bit.

When doing full restorations that require the entire car to be primed and sanded, a good shop (that has time) will let the primer sit for a week or more before a final wet sanding. Then prep and paint the vehicle.

Nothing may happen, but it's a little insurance if you can wait.
