    Fan/Thermostat

Ok I understand the point of what each one does, but what are the pros and cons of running one over the other or both at the same time? whats the easier to do? I think its the thermostat and I was planning to put in the 170 thermo once my car is returned back to me. Any other info that might be relevant is appreciated, and yes i did use the search function to research this, just looking for a definative answer

You want to have your engine run no more then 180 degrees to get the most power, then you want to have the fan cool your engine down fast between runs

Both actually need to be done.

Running the fan with the stock t-stat will yeild almost no results, because you're reducing the temperature of the coolant in the rad, but it's not going anywhere, the stock t-stat won't open until 208*

Changing the t-stat will let you run cooler as long as your moving at a reasonable rate of speed, but as soon as you slow down, let's say in traffic, or in line at the dragstrip your temps are going to start climbing.

You may want to consider a 180 t-stat. Some people are getting codes with 170's because the computer is not happy unless the temp gets above 180 and will throw a code.

ok so 180 AND the fan mod is the best combo? anyone else feel free to correct me? the Thermostat mod seems do-able for me (That video on the daytona, forgot the name, was super helpful), but that fan mod puzzles me ill read up more on it I guess. Thanks for the responses so far!

I would say the 180 and fan mod are indeed the best combo. You can use a 170, but you have to let the car get above 180 BEFORE you turn on the fans, not always the most practical.

There are 3 viable options for a good fan mod that has been proven.

    1. The jaak fan mod (the one I'm currently using) click HERE

    2. The Jim Turner fan mods, there are 2 of these a simple one and a more complex.(I ran the simple one for most of the summer) click HERE

    3. The GSM kit. By far the most expensive.

Do 'em at the same time if you can!

If you have to choose one, do the t-stat first. A fan mod without it, will net you nothing.

I agree, I ran around with just the 180 stat for a week or so and temps would hover around 180, but as soon as you went WOT and went over about 195 the temps stayed up until the car was shut off and cooled down. Now with the $40 fan mod my temps never go over 190 and the fans come on automatically at 183*.

Don't be intimidated by the fan mods, they are very simple to do. If you are afraid of the soldering just by and extra relay(I recommend the Bosch) they are much easier to mod as the parts are bigger I shake like a leaf so trying fine solder work anymore just doesn't work with me.

Thanks... Adam emailed me today and said your parts are in. If I'm lucky, I might be able to pick them up tomorrow.

Ok, here is another way to do it. It is not the cheapest way, but it is great for those who don't care to cut a solder and such. This is a plug and play deal. It also gives you some other useful features.

Thats pretty cool, but you get alot of extra crap it seems.

The shifter idea is cool but kinda bulky, good innovation though!!
