    Factory nav system

    Hey everybody.
Has anyone here shipped their LX to Europe and managed to get the factory nav system to work using the EU disc?
I have done just that for a job relocation and purchased a UK disc from the local Chrysler dealer. My nav unit cannot read it and comes up with the error message "unable to read disc"

Any one help or have any experience with this.

I am coughing a bit at the moment as gas here is $9 a gallon and my fisrt fill up was about 110 bucks - ouch !
Mind you if I had a Dollar from everybody that wants to talk to me about my car I would be VERY rich - its a real conversation piece.

Ouch is right! Never had any experience with the nav disc in a European setting, but I wonder if you can have something enabled with the Starscan tool by the dealership there. Just a thought.

Congrats on the job relocation (assuming it was something you wanted) and good luck with the nav disc situation. Let us know how it turns out, DD. BTW, where did you end up over there?

Do a search, this was discussed at length a few days ago. I can't recall off the top of my head where it was or what was discussed though...

Thanks for the replies guys - can't find anything specifically about getting another countries disc to work on the search - will have another look tomorrow.
John I am in Oxfordshire - nice part of the country too, just trying to get used to the time difference, I'm 5 hours ahead of the US. The temperatures here are a little lower than I was used to in Florida

You CANNOT use the euro disc with the REC nav radio, nor can you use the North American disc on the euro version REJ radio. While the REC and REJ nav units are very similar they use a totally different main circuit board so it is not just something that a software hack would take care of.

Thanks for the information Milous. Have you inside knowledge on this subject or did you know someone who has tried the same and failed. This is quite a big deal for me being new to the UK. I dont want to go and buy an EU spec system or even another type of unit so any help or info here would be really appreciated.

Ok I found the information, this is from a Jeep website:

" The REC navigation radio is only compatible with vehicles built for the North American market. Europe and other countries use a similar radio, model REJ.
Can I use the REJ European navigation DVD disc in my REC radio?
No. North American REC models must use the North American DVD disc, and REJ export models must use the DVD discs made for export markets"

Sorry to bore you all, I thought it might be of use to anyone here from the military that might wish to use their LX in the EU. I am going to have to try and buy an REJ version to make this work as I am here in the UK for three years.

Yeah I found that out this morning, the local Chrysler dealership quoted me a rather painfull $3247.27 including VAT @ 17.5%. ( Thats Value added tax to you ) Quite how tax is "value added" is beyond me and at 17.5% too - sheesh. I am also looking into a couple of Pioneer 3d nav systems and getting a custom facia made up for comparison. I'm going to go out this evening for a few VERY large beers to help ease the pain.

Well I have finally bitten the bullet and blew $3 K on a factory REJ navigation unit. I fitted it last night and everything works well. It really was just a simple swap over. The only down side is that the UConnect and sat radio is not suppored in the UK and is not available. Not bothered about the sat radio but the UConnect is a shame. I can see an incomming call coming in via the EVIC but cannot get the voice prompts to work. Can't think why Europe does not have this system. The radio though is much better with some nice features including traffic announcements and a far better RDS / EON system.

Definately the best feature though on the navigation is that there is absolutely no "in motion" restrictions - brilliant.

Anyway I am selling my old REC unit for anyone interested - see the buy/sell section.
