Question Explain TPMS To Me... please

Okay, so I have a 2005 and it doesn't have TPMS.. (Tire Pressure Monitor)

Just what is it and where does it show a warning if your tires are low?

    My big question is about the wheels;

Are there 2 holes in the rim? one for the valve stem and one for the tire sensor?

Or does the TPMS sensor replace the valve stem?

I ask because I may be in the market for some nicer wheels in the future and want to clear up any questions about TPMS.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Bob

Yes that is what it does

No only one hole the sensor is part of the valve stem
Or does the TPMS sensor replace the valve stem?

Bob TPMS I believe was not an option on the 05 Mags...meaning the programming was not there...although if yours was later may have been.

check ebay for an after market TPMS system.. it is not possible to add the TPMS to a 2005 car.. I have tried.. you need 3 wireless modules, which is easy to wire in, but the damn cluster doesn't have the software for the TPMS.. and you can't use a 2006 cluster because the hardware is different..

    so I just got this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TPMS-...spagenameZWDVW

I set the receiver in my console behind the rear air vents.. (have to remove the console to put it there) with some velcro and hard wired it fuse 18 in the trunk so it is switched with the ignition..

mounted the display in the upper left corner of the windshield so it is out of normal view but at a glance I can see it..

works great, tells me tire pressure, and tire temp, and beeps if the pressure drops below a present I determine myself, or if there is a leak.. (slow or rapid loss of air)

No No No, you guys are missing the point of my questions.

I do not want TPMS on my 05' car, I was just asking how it works and if there are 2 holes in the rims that have TPMS.

In the chance I buy some factory wheels (in the future) that are equiped with TPMS sensors, will I have any problems putting them on my car?

So if a wheel had TPMS sensor on it, there would be 2 holes in the rim?

One hole for the valve stem and another hole for the sensor? Right?

If I didn't want the sensor in the wheel, is there something to plug up the hole?

    Let's try this again..................

    please

no the Valve is the TPMS sensor. OEM wheels have one hole and the valve/sensor looks like this: you can replace with a regular valve without issue.. should only have ONE hole.. not TWO.. I think GM had a system with 2 holes couple years ago (2001 or so) not anymore though..

some aftermarket wheels may have 2 holes because the sensor is designed to go on the curve of the rim, and some aftermarket wheels have valves on the middle flat part of the rim, requiring a second hole on the curve for the TPMS as the TPMS sensors are angled..

    hope that makes sense.
