ET's, DA's, and Maps
Some of you may notice that the people that drag race often speak about density altitude(DA). What is it? It is the corrected altitude from sea level based on elevation and atmospheric conditions. What you are doing by knowing this number is to get a better idea of how your car runs in comparison to others at tracks and conditions across the country.
The norm is that the lower the DA the faster you run. So someone in Denver may run a 14.5 ET with their R/T but you ran a 13.9 with a like equiped R/T in Wisconsin. The difference could be partially attributed to and greatly affected by the DA'. Your 13.9 ET car may not really be faster in a head to head competition on the same track.
Acme Mapper has a topography feature that lets you see the elevation of an area. Why is this useful? To get your track DA' you need the elevation!! There are other pieces to this and here are some links.
Acme Mapper program - basically Google maps with extra features. The one we care about is the Topo for elevations.
National Weather Info. Find a location nearest your track and get conditions for the date time you race.
DA Calculator - Enter the information and get your DA.
Hope this helps some people.
