Thumbs up ESP saved my but this morning.

On my way to work this morning, getting off the highway. At the end of the ramp there are 3 lanes, with 2 turning left. I'm in the front of the line in the middle lane. The traffic in the left lane typically turns left at the next light into one industrial park. The center lane stays right and then splits into 2 more lanes. I am planning to stay in the right lane then go into the left lane to turn left at the second light into my industrial park. Anyway, the light turns green and we start out. The lady in the left lane decides SHE is the only one on the road and starts wandering over into my lane instead of staying in hers.

Decision time. I can do one of two things; brake and let her in front of me or accelerate in front of her (no option to go right as there is a guard rail.) As I am a bit better than even with her, I think if I brake, she hits me. So, I choose to accelerate to get in front of her. Of course, I hit a sandy spot on the road and the rear end gets squirrelly. I feel the traction control kick in. A moment of brakes applied and a bit of a lag in acceleration. Maggie corrects herself, sits down and takes off.

I know there has been some bashing of the ESP in our cars but I am sure glad I had it this morning.
    RIP Hooters.

I love the ESP. I think the only time I would turn it off is if I were on a race track testing my skills. I know ESP has saved me before.

Before ESP all I had was Guardian Angels. And I'm sure I forced a few of them into early retirement.

Glad you got out of the dangerous situation unscathed!

The Magnum has a soul. It has a personality, something all too lacking in the automotive transportation appliances everybody else is offering.

The ESP is one of the reasons I bought an LX. It's very smart and frankly, when I just want it as a car, and I'm not absorbing the performance, is when it does it's best job. It's rare that I need to turn it off. I only turn it off to play.

I came to appreciate my ESP last year when we had snow and ice all over the streets. ESP kept my car straight, and did so without my noticing. As an experiment, I turned it off once on ice to see how the car would handle. I got almost completely sideways without even accelerating. ESP rocks!!

I did a U- Turn on a slippery (wet) intersection and nailed it. The first thing that happened is the rear tried to swap ends. The second thing that happened was a life saver. The car all of a sudden was out of my control, brakes, throttle and steering. It was totally under its own control and ended going straight in a fraction of a second. I was under control again and had a deeper understanding about ESP .

Yes, ESP means we don't have a lot of pictures of wrecks on here.
