    Question Electrical Gremlins?

This is odd...anyone ever have this happen?

Driving to work yesterday AM I turned on my left signal and it made a strange loud pop and then started clicking/flashing super fast. It has continued to flash and click at this hyper speed ever since. However, the right signal still flashes at it's normal slow speed.

Is this a sign of an electronic flasher getting ready to die?

I'm not sure about our rides. But I know on my fords, when a turn lamp blows, it does the same thing. Have you checked your signals to make sure they are working?. That's the only suggestion I got for ya.
From wild to extra wild we got you covered with crap ya never knew you needed.

OK...so I hopped out to check the signal bulbs while it was hyper flashing. The left rear was out. Alright, problem solved. EXCEPT it stopped hyper flashing.

I drove to Shucks to get a bulb, turned the signal on, and it's back to slow pace and all the bulbs are working again. I turned the car on and off, did it in accessory mode and same thing - flashing was back to normal and the bulbs all worked.

Some guy thought I was crazy running around the car looking at all the lights working. lol

So I went in and bought bulbs anyhow. Damn thing worked fine the entire drive home (30 miles). Worked fine when I got home, and came to realize that pulling that rear bulb is not going to be an easy task... so eventhough I decided to replace it anyhow, I still haven't done it.

Then this morning the hyper flashing was back again while driving and I assume the signal was NOT working because some people got upset with me on the freeway. lol

So what do you think? Is a bulb going bad or am I having flasher issues or electrical problems?

I suppose the only way to know is to start replacing stuff: bulb, then flasher, then cry. ack!

I had the same kind of thing happen on mine. When I replaced all of the bulbs with LED bulbs, one of the resistors for the turn signals had a cold solder joint from the manufacturer.

It would flash real quick at first, then act as normal. The only thing I could think of is that the computer is looking for a specific load, and does not find it, therefore the variance in flash rate.

Bottom line: replace the bulb, and all will be good!

Well...hopefully it isn't a loose connection somewhere and it really is just the bulb. I'll try to disassemble that darn tail light tonight when I get home. grrrrrr...

Just replace the bulb. Probably just a element going bad. Remember dont drop the wing nuts.

LOL....ya know, I popped open that access panel in the dark out in the parking lot. I put my hand in there and felt around and thought "crap..is that some huge wing nut?" just from feeling it. I didn't feel a way for the light to come with it so I'm thinking, "I must need to pulll that huge wing nut and then do something else to get the lense off....

Pulled out the owners manual (duh...it even said when the flasher goes faster that a bulb is out) and it said EXACTLY what I figured...

    Same here...

I had the same experience last night, and I'm just about to head out to the garage to replace the bulb on the left rear.

One semi-interesting thing I noticed was that when I hit the "lane change" function, it flashed six times on the left vs. the usual three. I'm guessing that it's a timed function, rather than "three and out."

Speaking of "three and out," my Illini are about to go through the meat grinder at Happy Valley, so I'd better get going...
