    Exclamation Driveshaft Vibration - Aftermath...

Ok, so as some of you may know i had a bad d/s vibration just like Jweezy...

Thanks to Junior/Meister i got my hands on a new d/s with the rear coupler and also bought the mid brace w/ the new bearing...(whats the technical term for that damn piece??)

Now the car pulls tight when i hit the gas...no vibration and hauling ass in the hundred twenty area. Its so nice to have the car back

In any case here are the pix of the rear coupler (front was fine) and also my brace...rough riding...

I can see how if the drive shaft came loose the "insulation barrier" would be ripped up.
Where did the brace damage come from? It looks lie you bottomed out..
I am curious because I am not running the brace. My Magnaflow piping rattles on it.

I think it was more like grounding than bottoming out.

Was the coupler damage easy to see when bolted in place? Wondering if we all should inspect these every once in a while...

Would you guys have any interest in us making a billet piece for the front and rear? It would take some slop out of the drivetrain. The GTOs suffer from the same issue with their rear rubber coupler. All aftermarket shafts come with a billet coupler.

surely you mean billet with bushings in it. with no bushings, there would be a vibration in the driveline due to slight angle changes.

No, it's there as a shock load damper or cush drive. By removing the rubber you will transfer power faster to the rear end. The rubber couplers are not there as a U-joint. We have seen really good results with billet couplers on other similar setups. Granted, we'd need to test it on this application obviously, but I don't think it would cause a vibration issue.

As long as the pinion angles are correct and the shaft is in phase.......I can tell you for a fact the LX shaft is out of phase as it is off center and may require a CV joint on one end.
I do agree that a solid joint would transfer power much better but I also believe the rubber coupler is the only thing keeping the rear differentials on these cars intact.

Yeah, I haven't looked at it very close so I'm sure you're right. Maybe one billet coupler and one rubber.. don't know yet. It is easy enough for me to design and machine one real quick. I'll play around with the idea and see what I can come up with. I have some things in progress that will solve the whole grenading driveline thing too.

I'm just looking to improve the drivetrain that Mopar skimped out on you guys.

If you do a solid joint I would also look into a beefed up center bearing and mount.I am pretty sure once all the slop is taken out of the shaft you will see those rip out of the floorboards.I know I ripped my fair share out of my 62' 409 Impala. With similar weight and torque off the line I am sure that we will see it someday on an LX.

the pinion angle is dynamic on these. it changes slightly while under load. mostly because the diff is mounted on 3 rubber bushings. ever driven an LX with NO coupler, or using 3 of the 6 holes? its like driving with square wheels.
