Drive shaft and Tie rod Vibrations!

About 3 months ago one of my rear coupler bolts had broken in half after beding my rim form hitting a pot hole. I was having the same vibrations like in Jweazy post. I replaced all the bolts my self and it stopped about 90% of the vibrations but to me the coupler did not look completely strait its warped or bent a little. Since then vibrations have come back not as bad but noticable. So I took it to the dealer last week and told them that I needed my reaer axle looked at. I did not mention the work I did, I wanted them to find it there self and cover it under warranty. Well they told me the U joint looks fine and I have inner and outer tire rods that are loose. I was there for inspections and they tride to charge me 1400.00 for new tires which I dont need and the tie rods not under warranty. My question is do you think my tie rods are bad also and thats causing the vibrations or should I just replace the coupler like weezy did in his post. Also how much for that coupler I found tie rods prices form a recent post. It seems like were all having the same issues with the car.

Most people do not operate under divine inspiration. Examine the parts and if bad replace. And no we're not "all having the same issues". 2 posts do not make an all.

I am very familar with the rear suspension but do not know exactly what you mean by inner and outer tire rods in the rear?

Front to back you have right and left compression link, tension link, camber link, toe link and the lower control arm is called a spring link.

cant really offer any input on the coupler issues but, i have a vibration in my steering when i get to about 80mph. i went to get an alignment and the shop told me i have a bad outer on the driver side and a bad inner on the passenger side. if you decide to change the tierods, check out www.rockauto.com i ordered the Moog a set of inners and outers for $173 shipped. thats the cheapest i found anywhere.

Very rarely will you feel loose tie rods through the steering wheel.

To check your tie rod ends, jack up the front of the car and shake the wheels side to side (holding tire at 3 and 9 o'clock)and see if theres any play. Chrysler's are notorious for bad tie rod ends. I see them loose quite often on lower millage cars. Just replaced a very loose outter rod end on a pretty new low millage town and country today.

Generally the outters will be loose before the inners.

As 357 Mag said go with Moog replacements. They are significantly better than stock, and the outters have grease zerks so you can keep fresh grease in them.

If your rear coupler is shot, as was mine this week, you will feel an EXTREME vibration through the steering wheel.

And I've long suspected that my sloppy steering is due the tie rods.

I'm not sure what, exactly, you're asking here. You should look into English lessons ASAP, though.

They just told me that my inner and outer tie rods were loose and needed repair. I just mentioned look at the rear because the coupler was a known issue for me. I'm still learning excuse my ignorance.

And thanks for the price suggestion how about for a rear coupler.

does the whole car seem to shake?? having had both bad coupler/ujoints/ds and tie rods....it feels different...tie rods will affect mostly the front and u'll feel it more on the steering wheel. and with the coupler you'll get the vibration in the whole car but not a lot in the steering wheel...

Id say its the whole car when Im in the passenger seat I can feel it. After looking at your post Im convinced the coupler needs to be replaced and they just over looked it. Now my rods may be loose also but it's definitely a whole car shake.

check the u joints again to be sure and the center brace bearing in my case had play in it...it's in a rubber surround but you'll definitely know if there's play in it.

    good luck
