    DIY well DIMyself Windshield tint

Went around looking at tint places to tint the windshield. Quoted $35 for the "droopy" corner look or $50 for the right way it should look. While wasting time at a local parts place, I saw the top tint for $15, then I saw the reg tint for only $10. I bought the $10 and it is 24" wide. Cut off a 8" wide roll of it and tinted the top. I did it in 2 sections even with the bottom of the blackout that the rearview mirror attaches to. Taped it on the outside of the windshield and used a razor to trim it to the trim at the top of the windshield. Then I took a 4" piece of wood with a razor blade nailed to it to follow the contour of the top of the windshield to not have the droopy look. Then the usual clean the area of the windshield, squirt it down with water and lil bit of dishsoap. The passenger side came out perfect, But as I was putting on the driver side, a wind gust happened and got some crap on it. So there are a few minute bubbles on it. But I have enough tint left over to do 2 more windshields haha.

I wish I would have taken pictures of the how-to but the battery in the camera was dead and I was trying to beat the thunder storms.

Wow!! $35 for the droopy? I was quoted $85! They could not make it the right way and after 2hours I left. Gonna take your pic and see if someone can do it "the right way!"
    I like to pass!!

What they have to do is take something that they can use to trim the bottom of the tint even with the top (following the same contour). I used a 2X2 piece of wood 4" long with the razor. The took the top of the block of wood and followed the top of the windshield. This way the bottom is the exact same as the top.

It is easiest to do it in 2 pieces. I used the blackout area of where the rearview mirror mounts as a guide line. When I did the outer edges I should have use tape on the outside to have a lineup mark, instead of using my crooked eyes. The bottom of the blackout area is about 4" from the top of the windshield. When I measured after the install the outer edges are 4.5" so they do droop a lil bit but heck of a lot better then the quick install of using the straight edge of the tint. I cant believe that a professional shop dont know how to do this. Hell if I can figure this out anyone can.

You can also cut the tint to the bottom edge of the windshield & slide it up, then cut off the top.

Local tint shop here did my windshield strip, as well as the front windows. I started to leave and saw I had the "droopy" tint strip on the windshield, which I hated. Went back in and asked them to make a straight cut across on the windshield strip, installer said he would have to "free hand" it - fine with me. Just get rid of that stuipd looking "droopy" look.

They started to do the droopy look on mine and I told them no way, then they did it the right way. No extra for that either. They did front two windows plus the windshield for $85 and they did do a very good job! Very closely matched to the rears. I think the windshield is maybe 5%.

Pushing the law here with just the 20% on the front side windows.

The whole windshield is just asking to be stopped around here.
