damn thats crazy! just imagine they pull this on one of our meets lol that would suck. so if they takes this to court, do you think they would win? i know they need a warrant to look through the cars but they had modified cars and i guess its called plain view (is that what they call it?) if they see something illegal they have the right to search it?

OMG, what a bunch of bull!! I'd be getting a good lawyer. Guess I won't be attending many gatherings in SoCal.
Well I do have out of state tags so I do get away with a lot more.

I know many years ago here in Phoenix when street racing was rather large. The police staked out the race spot from roof tops takeing pictures for over a month. Then one day they did a similar thing and raided the place and matched people to thier cars and infractions they had comitted. There were lots of tickets handed out that day.

I think this quote from that article says it all!

"If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Riverside Police Traffic Sergeant Skip Showalter asked an enthusiast during a similar crackdown last year. "Why would you want more power going to your car?"

hmmmm - good point I guess

lots of chat over on SRTforums since a lot of the SRT4 IE crowd goes to these meets.. they blocked in all the exits, emptied the Hooters and popped the hood on any car that 'looked' modified - now, I am all into throwing the book at street racers - crush their car whatever you want to do... but to raid a Hooters - wow

Because maybe you're into track racing on the weekends, dumb***!!!!! (not you, the guy responsible for that quote). Look at the power half of us have and AFAIK most of us aren't dumb enough to run on the street...

Wow, I think I'll call my captin buddy and find out what their side of the story was. I'll come back to this.

EDIT: This post originally was on the second page. Considering how heated this topic is, I'd though I'd copy it here for you first page only readers.

Yup, like I thought, there's another side to this story.

At this particular location, this group has been hanging out there for a long time. Short story is that in the parkinglot and on the street, they have holding both drifting comps and small drag races. Both business have complained about what has been taking place and where not able to get the problem solved with self policing. Also several customers complained about either almost getting hit or had damage to their cars in one form or another. It got to the point that the business was impacted because your normal everyday cliental would not go there anymore at night.

Now as far as the citations. Yes, vechicals where sited for various infractions and as to be expected, if your not within the law, here's your sign. The cars that were impounded, now there's another story. The only rides that were impounded were either unlicensed or had stolen parts on them.........plain and simple. And as far as I'm concerned, if you have stolen parts. F-you and the horse you road in on.

Now do these orginizations have any intentions of busting our balls when we do MnG's. Nope. Keep it clean and don't do stupid crap and we'll be left alone. Go out and create a hazard or make a nuisance of yourself and draw attention and yes, we'll be screwed too.

That is just sad. I could see if they raided a spot where people were racing but a parking lot gathering of people just hanging out? Sux

part of the real story is the sheer size of the gathering and the number of a$$hats there doing donumts and burnouts and just generally pi$$ing off the nearby businesses.. it really was only a matter of time before someone stepped in and did something IMHO

If you pop my hood or search my ride without a warrant, you can give me any ticket you'd like. I'll have fun in court.

That's a bunch of BS. But, I guess there's probably more to the story.

when I was a kid, it was bummer that being an 18 year old male in a car was illagal. Now that I'm old and balding, I really appriciate them pulling over the kid I was racing instead of me.
These kids know the score. It's as easy of going elsewhere. Challenging the man is the point here so I am seeing no victims.
    ..and I say that as a life-long man-challenger.

Is it really illegal in Kalifornia to performance modify your ride? I mean SoCal is the birthplace of hot rodding for crying out loud!

Somebody with the the background knowledge on this please chime in.

    Lou
