    Cluster Issues... becoming more frequent.

2006 300C, no options, base radio for the C package (BA system, singe disc).

I've noticed for a while now my "indiglo" gauges slightly flicker all the time... including the clock in the center console, while driving, during idle, etc... I figured its just the way our cars are, but now I'm starting to wonder.

About a 9 months ago I was driving down the highway and I heard a "DING" and then the needles for the speedo and tach dove down to zero and as soon as they hit rebounded back to where they were. I lost no power, had no hesitation, the radio didn't stop (that I noticed). I figured it was just one of our gremlins... checked for a code... nothing. Key dance and Predator came up empty.

About 3 months ago it happened again. Again while cruising at about 70. No codes, no loss of engine power or radio.

Today it does it on my way home from work, this time while accelerating from a light. "DING" and the needles dive and rebound immediately. No loss of engine power or radio. About 5 miles later it does it again, but I notice a bunch of the idiot lights down where the ESP/Airbag/etc lights are flash... it was too fast to tell which ones lit up. This was while I was cruising at about 50. No loss of engine power, or radio. Checked it when I got home, no codes again.

I'm thinking maybe my EVIC is starting to go out... it's one of the few things I haven't had apart, lol. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas or had experienced the same thing.

    Thanks.

Well then, my guess is that it's the one thing that's still working properly.

Nah, I dunno man. I'll be watching though.

    Hahaha thanks Mike.

Now that I think about it, I don't remember if the flickering started before or after I hit that deer (body damage nothing serious). I was told they had to order a new harness for my front end because mine was damaged... maybe I need to pull the front end off and have a look. I know for a fact that I didn't have the gauge problem until after the accident.

There was a time early on in the 2005 and 2006 models where some of the fuses
were not installed completely in the fuse boxes, and people were having trouble with
their lights flickering from time to time.

The remedy for this was to open the fuse box in the engine bay, and the one in the
trunk, and push all the fuses down to ensure they all were mated fully.

I know on my 2005 300C there were about 10 of them that were not pushed down
all the way because when I pushed on them, I could feel them snap down.

I can't remember if the fuses for the lights are in the fuse box in the engine bay, or
the trunk, but I pushed all of them down in both places when I did it.

Doug I'll try to get on tonight and discuss.

BTW happed again today, the needles were whipping back and forth for about 2 seconds and the radio cut off... I'm going to reseat all the fuses tonight. This was by far the worst it's ever done.

Hope this works for you Chris, let us know if re-seating the fuses is the solution.

I've also had the pulsating lights issue, was told it was a low battery, changed it and it almost went away. Now my tach has totally shut down, but all the other gauges are working fine, tried the cluster reset and all work but the tach. Does the tach have its own fuse?

sorry, but most likely, you have some sort of cluster internal failure, no fuse just for the tach

however front end crash equals issue with the brain of the car the fcm or the fuse box assemble. actually the fcm is the grey box attached to the fuse box. it can be removed by three tabs then check underneath it and make sure all the wire connections are tight and that the actual grey box is pressed against the fuse box tight.

the grey box holds on by 4 screws but it has a multi pin connection on it. just press on the box via the corners to verify it is seated properly. that grey box is the brains of the opperation.

the grey box itself also has 2 wire connections on it. press on them make sure they are tights.

either that maybe when they replaced or repaired your harness something was not clipped in all the way or the soldering job was not done good depends on how it was repaired,
