Check engine light and loss of power- HELP!!

I was on my way into work this morning and had my first REAL problem with my charger.

I got about 2 miles out of town, I was in the left lane passing a slower car when the check engine light came on and I had NO throttle response. I was lucky there was a left turn about 500ft infront of me, so I made the turn and coasted to a stop. I entered 'test mode' or 'diagnostic mode' (which ever you preffer to call it) on the EVIC and didn't see ANY codes.

I shut the car off, let it sit for a minute anr re-started it. Ran fine, all the gagues where fine, but the light was still on with NO code. The next test was to see if it was still 'dead in the water', I put it in gear and gave it some throttle, it worked fine.

Has anyone else had this happen? Any insight to this BEFORE I take it to the dealership at noon? (by the way, car had 4,860 miles on it at the time it happend)

Any help will be greatly apreciated.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Sounds like "limp home" mode to me? Maybe shuting it off cleared that?

I thought limp home mode was a 2nd gear limit, you had first and second so you could get home or to the dealer. I had NO throttle at all until I restarted the car.

I checked all the connections to the battery and fuse boxes after I took delivery (natural habbit for me, I'm not saying I don't trust other peoples work, I'd just like to know for sure it was done right...)

My thought is could it have been something to do woth the throttle position sensor?

Yes, I had a similar situation. I was traveling about 40mph in "D", felt a "clunck", the engine died, and the check engine light came on. Pulled off the road and shut the ignition off. Waited a couple of minuits and restarted the car. Check engine light still on. Took car to dealership.

The dealership found code P0730. Stated that there was a TSB for water intrusion. Flushed the transmission fluid, replaced filter, a torn O-ring, and cleared the code. Test drove and found everything ok. No charge to me - warranty.

At the time my mileage was 1231; my total mileage is now 2050 and no further problem.

Hope this helps. Bud (2006 Magnum R/T)

I got this once, but it wasn't as severe. The CEL came on, the throttle was DEAD, no response for a few seconds then it went back to normal, but with the CEL still on. It turned out to be a code for an "incorrect gear ratio" the tech wrote it off as a one-off glitch which I agreed with being as it's never happened before and that was at 7k miles, and I didn't change the differential or the trans or the tires or anything related to the gear ratio.

I went to the local dealership at lunch today and basically stood there waiting fro 20 minutes like I didn't exist. After finally getting someones attention, they said it takes an hour and a half to run the scan on cars and it would cost me $95 to do it!! The car is still under warranty, to my knowledge, if there is a problem like this, it should be fixed under warranty free (including the scan price). They said the soonest they can get to it is about 2:oopm. I have an appointment elsewhere at 3pm and thats a 45 minute drive, so I told them their service sucks, I lost 25 minutes of my time and I'm taking my business elsewhere. This is not the first problem I've had with these losers, but they are just down the road from me. Now, I'm in a bad mood, I got no where on what happened to my car and I'm hungry (wasted my lunch time for nothing )....

I may be able to help. I had this happen to me not too long ago, did you see if the lightning bolt light came on at the same time? When this happened to me, that light also came on. Pulled over did a restart and the lightning bolt was gone but the check engine light was still on and stayed on for two days. Took it to the dealer and they told me that the ECM chip was fried, replaced all three modules. No problems since. Another issue tht I had shortly after I got the car was a transmission problem. Which demonstrated similar results. Merging onto a highway, nailed it, !POP!, no power no throttle responce. Restarted and no problem, but check engine light was on. Dealer said a solenoid popped in the tranny, fixed it and I have not had any problems.

As far as your dealer, find another one!!! I had same type of crap service from the dealer that is 3 miles from my house. Told them to F themselves and I now drive 30 miles to go to a dealership that is AWESOME!!! That 5 star rating dealerships get means big money for them and they don't want to loose it.

I didn't see a lightning bolt, but it was in the 'manual mode' until the CEL came on, then it switched to 'automatic' on its own...
