Changed 17" tire sizes, now my speedometer is WAY out of whack!

So in the interests of saving money I kept my 17" stock SXT wheels but I changed my tires from the stock size to 225/50R17.

The car handles great, I couldn't be happier.

But now my car runs at 6mph (10km/h) over what my GPS tells me.

I went to the dealer and the Technician didn't have that size in his computer, so that was a bust. He set it to the "nearest size" but it is the same, maybe a bit worse! He said if that didn't work he'd have to mess with the "Bios" or something like that.

I really don't want to spend more time at the dealer on this, but I guess I will have to, because my mileage is racking up at an unnatural pace....and will until I switch to my snow tires (stock size) in October!

Any ideas, anyone? Surely I can't be the only LX'er who is experiencing this!

Thanks but I'd prefer to do it without spending $400

    Anyone else?

    Really?

Argh, okay.....I guess I should have thought of that before I did the switch....

Oh well....by the time I'm finished with the car the mileage won't really matter!!

    Thanks!

Well, just constantly use the GPS for Speed reference....and don't mind the speedo.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing....although I know that anything the speedo says I just deduct ten, lol...

I was just worried about the odometer racking up more miles than I'm really driving, but that will just stay that way until I switch back to my winters.....

oh...my bad...missed that part....well to be honest....how long do you plan on keeping the car, and how many extra miles a week does it put on? It may not be that bad if you think about it.

It's basically 10% out of whack, so if I do 120 kilometres, the odo will say I did 132.

I plan to keep the car until spring at least....and so really if my error only adds 10% to my mileage for another 48 days at 100 kms a day then it will only add another 500 kms until I put the correct tire size back on.....

    No biggie I guess!!

I think that is minimal, for everyone else reading the post 500km is equal to about 311 Miles....So i think you should be alright...I don't think that in a year it would equate to too much on your milage.
