    CAI and Insurance

Just bought an '88 Mustang LX 5.0 - yea a "Fix Or Repair Daily" (me and my 22 year old son). It's in great shape, well maintained. amoung other goodies it has a Chrome plated Cold Air Intake.
    SO WHAT !!!!
Because its more than 12 years old so we had to get an Insuance safety/road worthiness certificate signed by a licensed mechanic. So the 4x4 pick-um-up mechanic at the place where we bought it ticked YES off on the box on the form that says "Has the vechicle been ALTERED for speed or performance". Why ???? Because it has a Cold Air Intake, of course, which wasn't stock therefore the vehicle had been ALTERED for speed or preformance.

Luckily he hadn't faxed his report to the Insurance Company so we took the car to a Mustang expert who just laughed when we told him.

BUT..... In some people's eyes (?????) any "non stock" addition could get you into trouble. Boy. I'm glad nobody checked out my 01, R/T Durago with CAI, Chip, Throttel, Cam etc.

PS. My 05 Mag R/T (Hemi of course) is still stock. Except for.....

That's rough. I know a lot of people that have put on CAI's to try to increase MPG. Sometimes it has nothing to do with going faster.

Does Alabama have any car inspection requirements?

In Georgia there doesn't seem to be any real rules at all, unless you live within the 'Greater Atlanta Pollution Zone' and thus have to have emission checked every year - except on new cars, then yhou get to wait until they are a couple years old before have to blow $25 every year.

Well, that shows you need to take a car to a reputable mechanic. But realistically, anyone with mods is at risk of this. The issue isn't so much denial of claims as it is getting denied coverage altogether when you try to sign up (a claims denial or a nonrenewal would have to meet some pretty tough standards).

Me, I've got dyno runs that show my CAI, catback and headers barely did squat to my overall numbers. Yippee!

I hate when mechanics do things like that. It's so rediculous...serves no purpose but to make the customer angry :(

    Silly sticklers for the rules
Man's biggest mistake is to believe that he's working for someone else.

We don't have to have our cars inspected.
