    Basecoat/Clearcoating Engine Parts

Anyone have input on utilizing the OEM color on say, the valve covers? Or heads, valve covers, and basically anything on the engine that is visible and not subject to direct exhaust heat?

I know the BC/CC will discolor around the exhaust ports, but no one can see that.

Looking for feedback from those who have done this...thanks...

I dont think the oem will hold up to the heat but I bet you could get something close aftermarket wise

Use high temp, engine paint or powder coat. There are a few powder coating places that claim they can match colors.

If you were here in Texas I could recomend someone here to powdercoat.

They can do all kinds of powdercoating colors, even METALFLAKE !!!

I am not sure if a BC/CC would work - I don`t think it would hold up to the heat.

Go to Pep Boys or Auto Zone and pick up their high temp engine paint. I used it back in the day on my dads 76 Vette and had no problems at all. For peace of mind buy the highest temperature paint they have or atleast the one rated for 500 degrees. I always thought the orange looks sharp....

Thanks, I have painted many engines over the years with everything except BC/CC.

Powdercoating is an option, albeit I would have to buy a candy red-based powder myself and have a local outfit apply it.

I have seen a number of hotrods (Coddington, Foose, etc) with engines painted to match the outer decoration...I have to assume this is BC/CC, the same material that is matching the final outer colors. Attempting to match differing paint mediums I believe would be impossible. Those engines do not appear to show discoloration. In fact a number of examples were present at Barrett Jackson.

I'm trying to keep the underhood glitz to a minimum. I figure using BC/CC on the heads/valve covers/front end components/intake manifold, and a few other underhood components will make it evident it has been personalized, but not over-the-top...

Hopefully someone here on LX has already done precisely what I am going to do...unless they put forth compelling reasons not to :^)
