Anybody ever widen 18" RT rims?

I was wanting to widen my RT rims, but I've talked to a couple of places and they said they can't do it. Les Kiser mentioned he thought a couple of folks did get their RT rims widened.

Has anyone done this? How wide did you go? Where did you get it done? and What did it cost?

I sure hope this has been done and someone can help me out.

    Thanks,

I widened mine over 3 years ago(about 90,000 mi). Added 1" on the rears only. Since my car was lowered that truley was the max for the Toyo 285x50Rx18 without spacers. Actually the first Michilen's 285's I had needed a spacer. One of my favorite mods.
I have read others with stock ride height have added a little more. Here is the place that did mine. The welds were a work of art. They have been doing it for many years. Was $200/wheel.

    Very cool looking site indeed!

How wide can one go with stock Magnum RT wheels?

How wide could you go with another inch? (285?) 1.5"? Can they do 2"

    How about that spacer idea?
    Would a 1" spacer work?
    Are Longer studs available?
Is that even a good idea?

    Decisions, Decisions....

I got Toyo 285's with widening only one inch. That's a 8.5" rim now.
The Michilan 285 were a very fat tire which I had to use a 3/8" spacer. Fatter and heavier than the Toyo's 285'sx50 I now have. The factory studs were fine.
If you can wait a month I will tell you how much more room I have with the stock springs I am putting back on.
The tightest clearance issue is at the inside lower front.

I'd only be thinking on widening the rears and going staggered - big fat ones in the back and 'regular' sized up front.

I'd like to make the rears stick out another inch - would look cooler I'd think.

You should talk to legmaker.... He had his SRT wheels widened in the back if I remember correctly, and they did it much differently than by just adding 1 inch to the inside of the wheel. Ill see if I can find pics. It came out great.

too bad you can't stretch them. I really liked the Magnum concept wheels, just like ours but in either 20 or 22, I can't remember.

    Thanks Kim,

I talked to James and he quoted me the same price for widening 2". I'll be sending him 2 of my rims when I get back to Austin next week. I'm planning on 285/40s for the back of my Challenger.

Hmm, so 200 for 2 inches wider? I wonder if they would do this to the stock srt wheels on the challenger, making them 11 in the rear 9 in the front, would look awesome IMO

From what I've seen they can do it to any rim. Go to the above referenced website and send James an email. He'll give you a price quote.

And your right, that would look awesome.

I will when im ready to think about doing this, as of right now ive got 5 grand lined up in other places for this car haha. First ill be powdercoating the wheels black and would be doing this first if i could afford to put the 400 into that for a little bit of an appearance look. I know i can, but id rather have black wheels, purple calipers, black and purple seats, a mac mini, a t/a hood, a 20% tint, a predator tune cold air intake, lowering springs and mbrp exhaust first haha.
