    Amsoil 25000 mile drain interval?

I had a distant family member tell me he has been running amsoil on a 25,000 mile drain intervals for the last year and a half. So I looked on amsoils website and according to amsoil if you use their filters and their 100% synthetic oil (the very expensive oil) you can run 25,000 miles between oil changes. My questions is, is anyone doing this on a 5.7, and how does the M.D.S. work when the oil gets the high mileage on it? Also amsoil only offers the 100% synthetic in 0w20 with the 25,000 mile drain. The 5w20 has a 7,500 mile drain interval. All thoughts are welcome on this, I'm skeptical of the 25,000 mile drain intervals and long term engine wear.

I wouldn't do it. I would just run Mobil 1 or your choice of snythetic oil every 6k. I like Mobil 1 and Wix filters too.

on the 0-20w i would do a 15k change instead of there recomended 25k change. also, you need the davis filter they sell...its spose to be the best one made btw..aint cheap but works.

if you think of what aircraft go through, and yes i know these aint airplanes or helicopters, they only change a oil after a bad oil sample is taken.

i have 0-20w in stock for these cars btw and can get whatever weight you wanted.

Some points to be aware of for this extreme drain intervals. (from amsoil web site)

    (1) Engines operating under modified conditions are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturers.

This oil and practically every other one on the planet. In comparison testing, the top filters were K & N, Mobil 1, and Wix. Wix also makes many other brands including the NAPA high end filters. Absolute crap was Fram.

I've been using this stuff for 80,000 miles of the 101,000 on my 5.7 and change it around every 6,000 miles on their filter. I will be switching to the 0W20 next case (my Ford Focus ZX3 uses 5W20 oil too, and uses only 4 qts, so the case goes for both cars).

If you were going to go for 25,000 mile changes, at least get it anylized. I ran Mobil One in a Mazda piston engine and changed it at 25,000mile intervals. At 50,000 it suffered severe timing chain, tensioner, and sprocket wear. After that I changed it at every 5,000 miles, sold the car at 150,000 no problems.

Metal timing chains and gears typically use oils with extra shear additives. Mobil 1 makes a special series for this. You should always check the mfg recommendations for the oil service grade. You don't choose oils by advertising or internet hype.

So people is this an alternative method for us. I would not want to harm my engine but if this works, then I would go for 6 to 7k before changing. Never over that.

If you do a search on "synthetic oil" you get 90 billion hits and they are all Amsoil dealer's advertising hype. Then there is the online forums with "My uncle Louie used Amsoil for 700,000 miles and nuttin' broke". The problem is somebody's Uncle Louie is using Walmart .89/QT and claiming the same thing somewhere else. Statistically meaningless. In actual testing, it won't make a damn bit of difference whether you use Amsoil, Mobil 1, or stuff with purple dye in it. AND if you go and use 3000 mi changes it won't even matter if you use dino, unless you're in the Mojave desert or run a turbo.

    It's called marketing.
