Ack!!! Got some wheelspin, tranny disengaged, check engine light on. *HELP*

Driving in to work this morning.

1 degree celsius, full tank of 94 Octane fuel, light snow flurries and roads just a tad wet as a result, but no accumulation.

I'm at the stoplight near my work, take off from the lights in 1st gear (auto-stick mode) ESP fully ENABLED, and I get some wheelspin. I figure HAL will take car of it so I maintain throttle position.

I hear a loud clunk, the engine revs although the car isn't going any faster, and the check engine light comes on. Shifter is still in "D" but it's like I am in neutral; when I hit the gas the engine revs but no acceleration.

I put my 4-way hazards on and coast into the parking lot. Shut off engine. Wait a few minutes. Turn it back on. Tranny seems to work fine, but engine light is still on.

I went for a short drive. Everything seems OK, but check engine light is still on.

WTF happened here, and what to do now???

PS: Got my 30,000km oil change yesterday. Not sure if that is relevant, because the car was fine all the way home last night and (almost) all the way in the morning, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

check the code with your diablo!! limp mode would still move the car. could be a valve body problem [sticky valve]

did you do a key dance for the code??? or got the tuner in the car?

p0700 code? Happens if the engine spikes to 7,000RPM. Turn the car completely off (key out, open door), then restart, see if light stays on.

My Predator is at home. Too far to go get it. How do I do the "key dance"?

I turned the car off completely, came inside the office and turned on my computer, then went back outisde and turned it back on. Then I drove a couple miles and got some bagels, again shutting off the car and taking the key out. Then drove back to the office.

Light still on. :(

Get in the car, close the door. Perform the following steps fairly quickly (less than 3 seconds) :

Turn key to ON
then back to ACC
then to ON
then back to ACC
then to ON

If there are any stored codes, they will appear immediately, in place of the odometer. For instance an "INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH" error will set a code of P0113.

Once the codes have been displayed, you'll see "-----". If there are no trouble codes, the dashes will be the first item displayed.

After a few seconds, the display changes to "-dOnE-".

This is the same procedure used on most, if not all, late model DCX vehicles.

Had that happen doing a burnout at the track. Just hit the rev limiter and the tranny stopped sending power. A quick restart and it was fine.

Light went away after about a month of driving. Or just tune it again.

OK, did the "key dance" and no codes displayed. Just the 5 dashes for a few seconds, then "dOnE"

Started the car. No check engine light.

I guess everything is OK?

Wasn't there a procedure to disengage Panic Mode?

Something like...
Start car.
Find the nearest Mustang.
Beat him between the red lights.
Park car.
Keep smiling!
