    426 Stroker

I have an 05 Magnum R/T. Without going for a turbo or a supercharger, the 426 seems to be the best option at this point in time. Is it possible to drop a complete 426 into the R/T? Will the transmision be able to handle that power?

I would think it is very possible, because I know you can drop a 6.1 into a 5.7. Has anyone done this mod to an R/T? If so, what kind of dyno numbers are you putting out?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks.

Well I think the 6.1 is gonna run you around $6k, and then to make it into a 426 is another $10k or so... then add labor to all of that.

You'd be better off buying an SRT8 then modifying it to a 426 because the $6k+labor you're spending on just the engine (before upgrade) will pay for the SRT upgrade. You will need the Brembo brakes, and want all of the other upgrades (suspension, etc) when you get that beast in the engine bay.

The logical move up on an R/T is the 392 Stroker package. If you wanna make the giant leap to the 426, just buy an SRT8 then make the upgrade.

you don't need to buy a new 6.1 hemi first. you can get a complete short block from jeremy at PPP and then add the rest of the parts from your 5.7.

You will need a 6.1 intake, and 6.1 heads. I bought the 392 mopar heads.

I think Bandit's advice is really sound - you don't want to pop that much motor in a car that doesn't have the other components to support it (Brakes especially, but suspension too, etc). I believe the trannys are the same, though, can someone confirm?

Here's the thread about the swap we just did (426 into an SRT): http://www.lxforums.com/board/f225/unique-az-lx-event-66292-post904127/

    trans is good

don't worry about the trans, it can handle it. Get thee a large converter and then some beefed up half shafts (they're the weak link).

Or if you are in a situation like mine where your original 5.7 is toast and needs to be replaced anyways.

I'm leaning towards the 392 built off a 6.1 block so I don't have to worry about using a smt-6 to control fuel.

Well, I do not have the income to throw alot of accesories on the car othere than the engine itself, so I am leaning toward the 392. Does anyone know the difference in power of the 392 and the 426?

There was no perfect answer for me.
I had put so much mod money of which I would get none back. (like no rear side windows and no rear seats.)
So I decided "to be all that I can be" and called The HEMII Shop and went 6.1L Stroked to about 418+ cu.in. And yes, I went with the SMT6. Why not? Plus another few thousand in upgrades. It's only money.
