    426?

I was wondering if this is the same engine that's in Srt8's if not is it larger? I plan on buying a wrecked base Charger in a couple of yrs and making it a 2 door. But I want to make it this car a sleeper so I'm trying to decided what powerplant to put in it.

There's a whole lot more to that question than I'm gonna take on, but I'll give you the basics. The 426 is a custom-built motor. It ends up working out to be 7.0L - the largest motor you can get in a Charger from the factory is the 6.1L in the SRT.

Before I go ANY further, I'll tell you that starting with a base model will be extremely expensive. Starting with a wrecked base model is a fool's errand.

Not trying to shoot you down from the start, but if you've got the money to do what you're talking about, there are much smarter and safer ways to do it.

Stick around, the brains in this place will help you out if you tackle it a piece at a time.

EDIT: I just noticed you've been around, so try breaking the idea down a bit... folks will help if they think they're not contributing to someone killing themselves...

    a 426 can be a sleeper, easy.

Get a 5.7L Corsa exhaust, or even a STOCK srt cat back... and keep the cam relatively mild (the engine builders can get that for ya) so the lope isn't immediately audible.

Thing will make a lot of people turn heads when the throttle opens up :-)

ALso, starting from a BASE model is tough... at least start from an R/T, so the suspension, drivetrain, transmission, and all the computers are at least CLOSE....

^Agreed. If you want a 426, buy a high mile SRT (they're painfully cheap compared to new), pay a couple grand to have it built up to a 426, and you could probably sell "SRT" parts to make it look like it's not one if you really wanted to.

Start with a 5.7 car and comb the bone yards for a wrecked SRT to get your engine base. That way you dont have those big red brembo's telling everyone what your hiding.

Or watch the build of our Magnum we are going to show money saving tips on how to build power safely and affordably (cause I'm broke and I have to use a lot of used parts)
