Probably because the Bush administration gave them a loan without any collateral. They think that the company is in the government's pocket.
No, the government does not own Chrysler, but people are bitter that Chrysler just defaulted on a government loan worth billions of taxpayer dollars. And there's nothing the government can do about it, in the same way that a bank can't really do anything about a loan after someone declares bankruptcy.
